Analysis

The stock surged +12.1% in the session following this news. A strong positive reaction aligns with recent trading patterns, where favorable clinical and regulatory updates often preceded sizable gains, such as moves of 6.81% to 21.92% after earlier May catalysts. The new cellulite and laxity data further expand the clinical dossier supporting Renuvion and AYON. Investors would still need to weigh the relatively small 22-patient study size and broader sector volatility when assessing how durable such a move might be.

Recent Company History

Over recent months, Apyx has reported multiple positive catalysts, including strong Q1 2026 results on May 7 with a 21.92% next-day gain and expanded FDA 510(k) clearance for AYON on May 11 with a 6.81% move. Additional clinical publications on Renuvion, such as the May 14 study, also saw a 13.54% rise. A NewBeauty award on April 1 produced a modest negative reaction, suggesting commercial accolades sometimes trade differently than core clinical or financial updates.

5 terms
subcision medical
"utilizing Avéli® ... for targeted subcision to disrupt fibrous septae"
Subcision is a minimally invasive dermatology procedure that uses a small needle or blade under the skin to cut the tight bands that pull down and cause depressed scars or wrinkles, allowing the skin to lift and new tissue to form. For investors, it matters because it drives demand for medical devices, consumables and practitioner services, can be bundled with fillers or lasers, and is sensitive to regulatory approvals and reimbursement that affect market size and adoption.
fibrous septae medical
"targeted subcision to disrupt fibrous septae, followed by Renuvion"
Fibrous septae are thin bands of connective tissue that divide and anchor pockets of fat or other soft tissue, like interior walls in a honeycomb. They matter to investors because their presence and condition can affect medical imaging, biopsy interpretation, how diseases spread or respond to treatment, and the design or regulatory approval of devices and therapies—factors that influence clinical outcomes, trial results, and commercial prospects.
helium plasma radiofrequency medical
"Renuvion to reduce skin laxity through controlled helium plasma radiofrequency energy"
A medical technology that uses a stream of helium gas energized by radiofrequency to deliver controlled heat to tissue, often used to tighten skin and assist in surgical cutting or coagulation. Think of it like a precisely controlled mini blowtorch that firms and reshapes underlying tissue without large incisions; investors watch it because device sales, regulatory approval, and clinical adoption directly affect revenue potential and market share in the aesthetic and surgical device sector.
histological analysis medical
"Histological analysis in a subset of patients demonstrated increases in collagen"
Histological analysis examines thin slices of biological tissue under a microscope to show cell types, structure, and signs of disease or response to a treatment. For investors, it acts like a mechanic opening an engine to see internal wear — providing hard evidence about safety, whether a therapy works as intended, and how regulators and customers may view a medical product, all of which can affect commercial and regulatory outcomes.
body contouring system medical
"AYON Body Contouring System™: AYON is a groundbreaking, surgeon-designed body contouring system"
A body contouring system is a medical or cosmetic device that reshapes or firms areas of the body by reducing fat, tightening skin, or remodeling tissue using technologies such as lasers, ultrasound, radiofrequency, or cooling. Investors care because these devices drive sales, recurring treatment revenue, and potential margins tied to consumables and maintenance, and their commercial value hinges on safety, regulatory approvals, and patient demand—think of the system as a specialized tool used in aesthetic procedures that must meet medical standards.

Published data demonstrates visible reduction in dimpling and progressive tissue remodeling through a single-session approach

CLEARWATER, Fla., May 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Apyx Medical Corporation (Nasdaq: APYX) (the “Company” or “Apyx Medical”), the leader in surgical aesthetics products marketed and sold as Renuvion® and the AYON Body Contouring System™ (AYON), today announced the publication of new clinical data in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum highlighting a promising approach to improving cellulite and skin laxity, two of the most common aesthetic concerns among women. The prospective investigator initiated clinical study(1) evaluated a combination treatment approach utilizing Avéli® (Tiger Aesthetics Medical, LLC) for targeted subcision to disrupt fibrous septae, followed by Renuvion to reduce skin laxity through controlled helium plasma radiofrequency energy. Cellulite impacts up to 90% of post-pubertal women and is driven by fibrous bands pulling the skin downward, along with thinning skin and fat protrusion, resulting in visible dimpling which is often worsened by the presence of laxity. In this study, 22 patients received a single treatment session combining these modalities to address both the structural and surface level causes of cellulite and skin laxity. Results showed progressive improvement over time, with visible reductions in cellulite. In a subset of patients, increased levels of collagen and elastin through 180 days post-treatment was observed.

Results at 180 days post-treatment:

  • Up to 81.8% of patients showed improvement in cellulite appearance
  • Objective 3D imaging demonstrated measurable reductions in dimple volume, surface area, and depth, including complete resolution in select cases
  • Histological analysis in a subset of patients demonstrated increases in collagen and elastin, with improved dermal architecture and evidence of progressive tissue remodeling

“As the patient profile continues to evolve, a more comprehensive approach to cellulite and skin laxity is needed to address the multifactorial nature of these concerns,” said Regis Cain, Senior Director of Marketing at Apyx Medical. “Avéli® and Renuvion® are effective on their own and when combined as in this study, demonstrate significant and sustained improvement by addressing both the structural cause of dimpling and the quality of the skin itself.”

“Cellulite and skin laxity are complex concerns that often require a multi-modality approach,” said Barry E. DiBernardo, MD, lead investigator of the study. “The results demonstrated progressive improvement over time by addressing both the fibrous septae responsible for dimpling and the quality of the overlying skin.” The findings add to a growing body of evidence supporting complimentary treatment approaches designed to address both the structural and skin quality components of cellulite and laxity.”
