Evolution Metals & Technologies Submits Response to U.S. Army Sources Sought Notice for Rare Earth Magnets Used in Small Drone Motors
The response concerns a magnet grade already in commercial production, while Army-specific qualification follows a proposed staged path.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
Rhea-AI Summary
Evolution Metals & Technologies (Nasdaq: EMAT) submitted a capability statement to the U.S. Army for rare earth magnets used in small drone motors. The Army's request is market research to identify potential suppliers. It specifies N52SH or N42SH magnets; the company commercially produces N42SH in Pohang, South Korea, where that grade has completed customer qualification.
The company plans to expand annual magnet capacity there from approximately 1,000 metric tons to 10,000 metric tons, following installation and commissioning of 57 containers of ULVAC production equipment. Its response proposed staged qualification to Army specifications and an auditable mine-to-magnet sourcing record for each production lot.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

EM&T commercially produces N42SH, one of the two magnet grades specified by the Army for small drone motors
EM&T’s leadership includes President Andrew Knaggs, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense; Gen. Tom Bussiere (ret.), former Commander of Air Force Global Strike Command; and the Hon. Chris Miller, former Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense, providing the Company with extensive defense procurement and supply chain experience
Miami, FL, Oct. 28, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Evolution Metals & Technologies Corp. (“EM&T” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: EMAT), a U.S.-based critical materials and advanced manufacturing company, today announced that it has submitted a capability statement in response to the U.S. Army’s Sources Sought notice for rare earth magnets used in the brushless DC motors of small uncrewed aircraft systems.
The U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC) issued the Sources Sought notice, a Request for Information (RFI), “as part of its market research to identify companies with the interest and capability to manufacture and supply commercial-grade rare earth magnets.” The RFI lists neodymium-iron-boron arc-segment magnets in grade N52SH or N42SH. EM&T can produce eight sintered neodymium-iron-boron magnet grades: N35SH, N42SH, N46SH, N48SH, N42H, N45H, N48M and N50M. EM&T commercially produces N42SH at its facility in Pohang, Republic of Korea, where the grade has completed customer qualification, and plans to expand annual magnet capacity there from approximately 1,000 metric tons to approximately 10,000 metric tons following the installation and commissioning of the 57 containers of ULVAC production equipment.
In its response, EM&T proposed a staged path to qualify magnets to the Army’s specifications and an auditable mine-to-magnet traceability record for each production lot, in line with DFARS 252.225-7052 sourcing requirements that expand on January 1, 2027.
“Drones have become one of the most important tools on the modern battlefield, and every one of their motors depends on high-performance rare earth magnets that today come overwhelmingly from China,” said Andrew Knaggs, President of EM&T. “We already make N42SH commercially, we know how to qualify grades for demanding customers, and we are scaling to approximately 10,000 metric tons in Pohang. We are prepared to work with the Army on qualification and to establish a secure, traceable domestic supply chain for drone magnets. We are certified and going into commercial production of seven additional grades representing
“Air power, from strategic bombers to small drones, runs on components most people never see, and rare earth magnets are one of the most critical,” said retired Gen. Tom Bussiere, a member of EM&T’s Board of Directors and former Commander of Air Force Global Strike Command. “A force that cannot secure its magnet supply cannot be sure of its readiness. EM&T is building the allied, traceable production capacity our warfighters need.”
“Our reliance on China for rare earth magnets is a national security vulnerability, and it will not be solved by policy alone. It takes manufacturers with real plants, real equipment and real customers,” said the Hon. Chris Miller, a member of EM&T’s Board of Directors and former Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense. “EM&T is producing magnets today with a close U.S. ally and is significantly expanding our production scale outside of China. That is exactly the industrial base the United States needs to rebuild.”
