Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

E-Power (EPOW) disclosed technical details of the mid-sulfur petroleum coke route used in its joint venture’s energy-storage graphite anode materials. At comparable median particle size of approximately 11 μm, material made from mid-sulfur coke measured 357.8 mAh/g in specific capacity, versus 346.8 mAh/g for conventional low-sulfur coke—approximately 3.2% higher. Graphitization degree measured 94.8% and 93.9%, respectively.

Sunrise Guizhou’s GSD-2 has been in commercial supply since June 2023. M02-3 is qualified for mass production but has not yet entered commercial supply. Both products target large-format energy-storage cells. The company believes the mid-sulfur feedstock’s greater fibrous structure accounts for the higher measured capacity. Sunrise Guizhou also holds two granted utility model patents covering anode coke production equipment and coating and granulation equipment.

Key Terms

4 terms
dv50 technical
"comparable median particle size (Dv50 of approximately 11 μm)"
dv50 (also written Dv50 or D[v,50]) is the volume-based median particle diameter: the particle size at which 50% of the total sample volume (or mass, in volume-equivalent terms) is contained in particles smaller than that diameter and 50% in particles larger. It is measured from a particle size distribution obtained by techniques like laser diffraction and reflects the distribution weighted by particle volume, so it is influenced more by larger particles than number-based medians and is not directly comparable with number-median or surface-area-median measures.
graphitization technical
"Graphitization degree measured 94.8% and 93.9%, respectively."
Graphitization is the process by which carbon-based materials change their internal structure to the layered, graphite form, improving electrical and thermal conductivity and often making the material harder and more heat-resistant. Investors care because graphitization affects product performance, manufacturing yield, lifespan and cost in industries like batteries, electrodes and metallurgy—so it can influence a company’s competitiveness, margins and capital needs much like upgrading a factory’s raw material into a higher-performing component.
initial coulombic efficiency technical
"Initial coulombic efficiency | 94.1% | 94.2%"
The percentage of electric charge a battery cell can deliver on its first full discharge relative to the charge put into it during the first full charge, calculated as (first-discharge capacity ÷ first-charge capacity) × 100. A value below 100% indicates irreversible charge lost in the initial cycle to processes such as solid-electrolyte interphase formation, electrolyte decomposition, or other irreversible chemical changes; it is a one-time, first-cycle measure and does not by itself describe long-term cycle-to-cycle efficiency.
solid electrolyte interphase technical
"the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) ruptures"
A solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a thin, solid layer that forms on a battery electrode surface—most often the anode—when the liquid electrolyte reacts chemically with the electrode during initial charging. The SEI is composed of decomposition products (organic and inorganic compounds) and acts as a passivation film that conducts lithium ions but blocks electrons, limiting further electrolyte breakdown; its composition and stability determine how well the film controls ion transport, side reactions and long‑term cycle life.

DOVER, USA, Oct. 23, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- E-Power Inc. (“E-Power,” the “Company,” “we” or “our”) (NASDAQ: EPOW), a provider of advanced battery materials and AI Data Center (AIDC) microgrid solutions, today disclosed technical details of the mid-sulfur petroleum coke raw-material route used by its joint venture, Sunrise (Guizhou) New Energy Materials Co., Ltd. (“Sunrise Guizhou”), in its graphite anode materials for energy storage systems (“ESS”).

In side-by-side evaluation at comparable median particle size (Dv50 of approximately 11 μm), graphite anode material produced from mid-sulfur petroleum coke measured a specific capacity of 357.8 mAh/g, compared with 346.8 mAh/g for material produced from conventional low-sulfur coke — approximately 3.2% higher. Graphitization degree measured 94.8% and 93.9%, respectively.

Why the Route Works

During high-temperature graphitization, the release of sulfur from mid-sulfur petroleum coke generates additional internal porosity and surface defects, resulting in a modestly higher specific surface area. The mid-sulfur coke feedstock itself develops a greater degree of fibrous structure, which the Company believes accounts for the higher specific capacity measured after graphitization. The internal porosity also improves structural stability, which allows high compacted density and long cycling performance to be pursued together rather than traded off, and is favorable for rate performance and for controlling expansion during cycling.

Both products are developed for large-format ESS cells, including the 314 Ah and 587 Ah formats.

Design Approach

Sunrise Guizhou’s ESS anode development targets three properties in combination: low expansion, low lithium consumption and high consistency. A stable particle structure that maintains low expansion reduces the lithium consumed when the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) ruptures; a single-particle design reduces the lithium consumed by highly reactive components in pitch binder; and more uniform graphitization improves batch-to-batch consistency, limiting the effect of localized variation on overall performance.

Intellectual Property

Sunrise Guizhou holds two granted utility model patents relating to the production equipment and process for anode coke and for coating and granulation: “A System for Producing Anode Coke by Batch Coking” (Patent No. ZL201721552539.3, granted July 17, 2018) and “Production Equipment for Multi-Stage Series Continuous Heating, Coating and Granulation of Anode Materials” (Patent No. ZL201821683803.1, granted September 3, 2019).

“We chose the mid-sulfur coke route deliberately, and GSD-2 has been in commercial supply for more than three years, so that choice has been tested in production and not only in the laboratory,” said Mr. Haiping Hu, the founder, CEO and Chairman of E-Power Inc. “We are setting out the technical basis because shareholders should be able to see what sits behind the product.”
