Key Terms

application development and maintenance (adm) technical
Application development and maintenance (ADM) covers the work to build, update and keep software applications running smoothly, like designing a new tool and fixing or improving it over time. For investors it matters because ADM shapes a company’s ability to operate efficiently, add features, control costs and manage risk—similar to both constructing a house and performing routine upkeep so it remains functional, safe and valuable.
continuous integration technical
Continuous integration is a software development practice where programmers frequently combine their code into a shared project and run automated checks to catch errors quickly, much like an assembly line that inspects each part as it arrives. For investors, it matters because it reduces the risk of costly software failures, speeds up product updates, and typically lowers development costs—factors that can improve reliability, time-to-market, and a company’s operational efficiency.
continuous delivery technical
Continuous delivery is a software practice that keeps a product's code in a ready-to-release state by automatically building, testing, and staging changes so new features or fixes can be deployed quickly and reliably. For investors, it matters because it reduces the risk and cost of shipping updates, speeds time-to-market and customer response, and provides a steadier, more predictable stream of improvements—like keeping a car tuned and full of fuel so it can be driven whenever needed.

Upcoming ISG Provider Lens® report will evaluate providers helping enterprises apply AI to software delivery, testing and managed services

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a global AI-centered technology research and advisory firm, has launched a research study examining providers that enable enterprises to adopt next-generation application development and maintenance (ADM) capabilities based on advanced AI tools.

The study results will be published in a series of comprehensive ISG Provider Lens® reports, called AI-driven ADM Services, scheduled to be released in September 2026. The reports will cover companies offering services spanning AI enablement for application development outsourcing, project-based application development, managed services and quality assurance.

Enterprise buyers will be able to use information from the reports to evaluate their current vendor relationships, potential new engagements and available offerings, while ISG advisors use the information to recommend providers to the firm’s buy-side clients.

Application development and maintenance services are entering a new phase as enterprises integrate AI and GenAI more deeply into software delivery. Organizations are seeking measurable improvements in efficiency, reliability and responsiveness and increasingly expect providers to embed AI into scalable delivery models for development, testing and application operations. At the same time, governance, security, traceability and quality assurance are becoming more important as enterprises recognize the importance of managing risk amid transformation.

“Enterprises are no longer looking at AI as a standalone productivity tool in ADM,” said Heiko Henkes, ISG managing director and principal analyst. “Increasingly, they want service providers to embed AI into disciplined delivery models, while building in strong governance, to improve engineering outcomes.”

ISG has distributed surveys to nearly 200 providers of AI-driven ADM services. Working in collaboration with ISG’s global advisors, the research team will produce six quadrants representing the AI-enabled ADM services that enterprises are buying, based on ISG’s experience working with its clients. The six quadrants are:

  • Application Development Outsourcing, evaluating providers delivering large-scale outsourced application development services that apply AI across the software development lifecycle through disciplined delivery models.
  • Application Development Projects, assessing providers using AI to accelerate project-based application development and modernization with defined scope and timelines.
  • Application Managed Services — GSIs, covering global systems integrators delivering AI-enabled managed services for large and complex application portfolios.
  • Application Managed Services — SIs, evaluating specialist providers delivering application managed services with deep expertise in specific technologies, platforms, regions or industries.
  • Application Quality Assurance, assessing providers delivering quality assurance and quality engineering services that use AI-driven testing, analytics and controls across the application lifecycle.
  • Continuous Testing Specialists, covering providers that specialize in continuous testing and verification for modern continuous integration and continuous delivery environments, including validation of AI-assisted development outputs.

Geographically focused reports from the study will cover the global AI-driven ADM services market and examine products and services available in Asia Pacific, Brazil, Germany, Europe and the U.S. ISG analysts Maharshi Pandya (Asia Pacific and U.S.), Oliver Nickels (Europe and Germany) and Pedro L. Bicudo Maschio (Brazil) will serve as authors of the reports.

A list of identified providers and vendors and further details on the study are available in this digital brochure. Companies not listed as AI-driven ADM services providers can contact ISG and ask to be included in the study.

All 2026 ISG Provider Lens evaluations feature expanded customer experience (CX) data that measures actual enterprise experience with specific provider services and solutions, based on ISG’s continuous CX research.
