Against this backdrop of expansion and product innovation, the new patent invalidation complaint continues a theme of actively managing legal and strategic risks.

Market Pulse Summary

This announcement centers on Life360’s new complaint seeking to invalidate GoCodes’ U.S. Patent No. 8,973,813 after an earlier infringement suit was voluntarily dismissed on July 23, 2025. The company highlights prior legal wins and extensive prior art, framing this as part of a broader strategy to confront coercive claims. Investors may watch for procedural milestones in the Delaware case and any updates in parallel with ongoing growth, acquisitions, and product initiatives.

Key Terms

declaratory judgment regulatory
"filed a new complaint in the District of Delaware seeking a declaratory judgment"
A declaratory judgment is a court ruling that states the legal rights or obligations of parties without ordering any specific action or awarding damages. It’s like a referee announcing which team’s rule applies before the game continues, removing uncertainty about how the law applies. For investors, such a ruling can reduce legal risk and clarify potential liabilities or contract interpretations that affect a company’s future cash flow and valuation.
patent infringement regulatory
"GoCodes filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Life360"
Patent infringement occurs when someone makes, uses, sells or imports a product or process that is covered by another party’s patent without permission — like copying a chef’s secret recipe and selling the dish without consent. For investors it matters because alleged infringement can trigger costly lawsuits, damage awards, sales bans or forced licensing, any of which can reduce revenue, increase expenses and hurt a company’s stock value.
summary judgment regulatory
"subsequently winning a rare summary judgment, which confirmed no infringement"
Summary judgment is a court decision made without a full trial when a judge concludes there is no real dispute about the important facts and one side wins as a matter of law. For investors it matters because such a ruling can quickly end litigation that might otherwise drag on, reducing uncertainty about potential liabilities, legal costs and impacts on a company’s stock price — like a referee stopping a game when the outcome is clear.

Filing underscores Life360’s commitment to confronting weak or coercive claims through direct legal challenges

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Life360 (Nasdaq: LIF; ASX: 360), the leading family connection and safety company, today announced that it has filed a new complaint in the District of Delaware seeking a declaratory judgment that GoCodes, Inc.’s U.S. Patent No. 8,973,813 is invalid. Earlier this year, GoCodes filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Life360 in the District of Delaware, alleging that Life360 and its subsidiary Tile infringe the ’813 Patent. GoCodes voluntarily dismissed its lawsuit on July 23, 2025, without prejudice.

The complaint explains that GoCode’s patent is a patent-ineligible, abstract, and generic idea. It also details extensive publicly available prior art predating the patent, including third-party offerings and Life360’s own early lost-and-found services.

Life360 has a long-standing track record of protecting its innovations and defending against meritless and coercive litigation. In 2015, Life360 prevailed at trial against AGIS Inc. and was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorneys’ fees after the court deemed the case “exceptionally weak.” More recently, Tile successfully challenged Cellwitch’s patent-infringement suit by invalidating the majority of the asserted claims in Cellwitch’s patent and subsequently winning a rare summary judgment, which confirmed no infringement. This ultimately led Cellwitch to disclaim its own patent.
