Analysis

The stock surged +15.9% in the session following this news. A strong positive reaction aligns with Monarch’s pattern of upbeat responses to record earnings, as seen after several prior quarters where revenue, Adjusted EBITDA and EPS all reached new highs. The combination of higher margins, ongoing dividends of $0.30 per share, and active buybacks funded by cash flow has historically supported constructive sentiment. Investors would still need to weigh execution at both properties and any future legal or competitive pressures.

Recent Company History

Over the past year, Monarch has repeatedly reported record quarterly earnings, including Q2, Q3, and Q4 2025, with rising net revenue, Adjusted EBITDA, and diluted EPS, plus consistent $0.30 quarterly dividends and share repurchases. One outlier was the Q4 2024 adjustment tied to litigation, which sharply reduced previously reported net income and EPS. Today’s record Q1 2026 results extend the pattern of operational strength that resumed after that one-time legal impact.

Key Terms

adjusted EBITDA, basic EPS, diluted EPS, basis points, +4 more
8 terms
adjusted EBITDA financial
"Net income | | $27,592 | | $19,864 | 38.9% Adjusted EBITDA (1) | | $48,951"
Adjusted EBITDA is a way companies measure how much money they make from their core operations, like running a business, by removing certain costs or income that aren’t part of regular business activities. It helps investors see how well a company is doing without distractions from unusual expenses or gains, making it easier to compare companies or track performance over time.
basic EPS financial
"Adjusted EBITDA (1) | | $48,951 | | $41,131 | 19.0% Basic EPS | | $1.55"
Basic earnings per share (basic EPS) measures how much of a company's profit is allocated to each ordinary share by dividing the net income available to common shareholders by the weighted average number of common shares outstanding during the reporting period. Investors use it like the size of each slice when a profit pie is shared: it shows per-share profitability and helps compare performance across companies or periods without counting potential extra shares from options or convertibles.
diluted EPS financial
"Basic EPS | | $1.55 | | $1.08 | 43.5% Diluted EPS | | $1.52"
Diluted earnings per share (EPS) shows how much profit a company makes for each share of stock, assuming all possible shares from stock options or convertible securities are used. It provides a more conservative estimate than basic EPS, accounting for potential share increases that could dilute ownership. Investors use diluted EPS to get a clearer picture of a company's true profitability on a per-share basis.
basis points financial
"margin increased by approximately 300 basis points from 32.8% in the first quarter"
Basis points are a way to measure small changes in interest rates or percentages, where one basis point equals 0.01%. For example, if a loan's interest rate increases by 50 basis points, it's gone up by 0.50%. They help people understand tiny differences in rates that can add up over time, making financial comparisons clearer.
SG&A financial
"Selling, general and administrative (“SG&A”) expense for the first quarter of 2026"
SG&A stands for Selling, General, and Administrative expenses. It includes the costs a company spends on selling products, running the business day-to-day, and managing staff, like advertising, rent, and salaries. These expenses matter because they affect how much profit a company can make from its sales.
credit facility financial
"had cash and cash equivalents of $120.1 million and no borrowings against its credit facility"
A credit facility is a flexible loan arrangement that allows a borrower to access funds up to a set limit whenever needed, similar to a company having an overdraft option on a bank account. It matters to investors because it indicates how easily a business can secure cash when required, affecting its ability to manage expenses, invest, or respond to financial challenges.
capital expenditures financial
"Capital expenditures of $7.6 million in the first quarter of 2026 were funded"
Capital expenditures are the money a company spends to buy or improve big assets like buildings, equipment, or machines that will last a long time. These investments matter because they help the company grow and operate more efficiently, similar to how upgrading a home’s appliances or adding a new room can make it better and more valuable.
View in glossary
M&A financial
"The Company has been diligently evaluating potential M&A transactions, which it believes"
M&A, short for mergers and acquisitions, involves one company combining with or purchasing another company to grow, streamline operations, or gain competitive advantages. For investors, M&A activity can signal potential for increased value, new opportunities, or changes in market dynamics, making it an important factor to watch in the business landscape.

CEO Comment
John Farahi, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Monarch, commented: “Monarch delivered record first quarter financial results. First quarter net revenue and adjusted EBITDA increased year-over-year by 8.9% and 19.0%, respectively. First quarter adjusted EBITDA margin increased by approximately 300 basis points from 32.8% in the first quarter of 2025 to a record first quarter margin of 35.8% in 2026. The first quarter increases in revenue and adjusted EBITDA highlight our ability to drive sustained growth from our two properties.

“In the first quarter of 2026, we increased market share year-over-year at both Atlantis and Monarch Black Hawk. We are committed to ongoing capital investments, enhancement at both properties and setting the standard for luxury resorts in each market. We remain confident that we have opportunities to increase revenue in both markets, while deploying technology to reduce operating costs.

“We continue to return capital to stockholders through dividends and share repurchases. In the first quarter of 2026, we purchased, in open market transactions, 181,258 shares of Monarch common stock for $17.6 million.”

As a percentage of net revenue, SG&A expense decreased to 20.3% from 21.7% in the corresponding prior-year period. Casino operating expense as a percentage of casino revenue decreased to 36.0% during the first quarter of 2026 from 37.7% in the corresponding prior-year period primarily due to better labor management and operational efficiency. During the first quarter of 2026, F&B operating expense as a percentage of F&B revenue decreased to 72.7% from 74.3% in the corresponding prior-year period due to an increase in F&B revenue per cover. Hotel operating expense as a percentage of hotel revenue decreased to 36.0% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to 37.7% in the corresponding prior-year period primarily due to an increase in available and sold rooms and improved expense per occupied room in the current period compared to the same period in the prior year.

Net income for the first quarter of 2026 increased 38.9% and diluted EPS increased 44.8% compared to the same period last year. The Company generated consolidated Adjusted EBITDA of $49.0 million in the first quarter of 2026, which represents a $7.8 million, or 19% increase, compared to the same prior-year period.

Monarch believes its strong balance sheet and free cash flow favorably positions the Company to continue investing in its properties, share repurchases and paying cash dividends. The Company has been diligently evaluating potential M&A transactions, which it believes could drive additional long-term value for stockholders.

Quarterly Dividend Declaration
The Company today announced a cash dividend of $0.30 per share of its outstanding common stock. The dividend is payable on June 15, 2026 to stockholders of record as of June 1, 2026.
