Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

5 terms
net interest margin financial
"Net interest margin for the third quarter of 2026 increased 5 basis points to 2.95%"
Net interest margin measures how much a bank earns from lending and investing compared with what it pays for funding, expressed as a percentage of its interest-earning assets. Think of it like a grocery store’s markup: it shows the gap between buying cost and selling price per dollar of goods — here, the cost is interest paid and the sale is interest received. Investors watch it because a higher margin usually means a bank is more profitable and better at managing interest rate and credit conditions.
non-performing assets financial
"Non-performing assets totaled $13.3 million, or 0.39%, of Total assets"
Loans or other credit exposures that are not producing expected income because borrowers have stopped making scheduled payments for a significant period (commonly around 90 days). Think of it like a business lending money that has gone quiet — the cash flow stops while the lender still carries the debt on its books. High levels of non-performing assets matter to investors because they reduce a lender’s earnings, tie up capital that could be used for growth, and signal higher risk of future losses.
non-accrual loans financial
"Non-accrual loans totaled $13.3 million as of September 30, 2026"
A non-accrual loan is a loan a lender has decided is unlikely to produce the scheduled interest payments, so the lender stops counting future interest as income and may record the loan at a reduced value. Think of it like renting out a house where the tenant has stopped paying: you stop counting future rent as earnings because it’s uncertain you’ll get it. For investors, a rise in non-accrual loans signals worsening credit quality, lower reported income and higher potential losses that can weaken a bank’s capital and share price.
cet1 financial
"CET1 to risk-weighted assets | 9.76"
CET1, or Common Equity Tier 1, is a measure of a bank's core financial strength, representing its most reliable and high-quality capital, primarily made up of shareholders' equity like common stock. It acts like a financial safety buffer, helping the bank absorb losses and stay stable during economic downturns. For investors, a strong CET1 ratio indicates a bank's resilience and overall health.
gaap financial
"not measures of financial performance recognized in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles"
GAAP, or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, are a set of standardized rules and guidelines that companies follow when preparing their financial statements. They ensure consistency, transparency, and comparability across different companies, making it easier for investors to understand and compare financial information accurately. This helps investors make informed decisions based on trustworthy and uniform financial reports.

DENVER, Oct. 22, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- First Western Financial, Inc. (“First Western” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: MYFW), today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026.

Net income available to common shareholders was $6.0 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2026. This compares to net income of $5.7 million, or $0.57 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2026, and net income of $3.2 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2025.

Scott C. Wylie, CEO of First Western, commented, “Our third quarter results demonstrate continued execution and progress across our business, underscored by strong loan and deposit growth, accelerating loan production, further expansion in our net interest margin and disciplined expense management. Healthy client demand in our markets drove robust loan growth during the quarter, while continued growth in noninterest-bearing deposits reflects the strength of our relationship-based banking model and our ongoing focus on improving our funding mix. Together, these trends contributed to strong growth in net interest income and pre-provision net revenue, while asset quality remained stable.

“We remain encouraged by the strength of our loan pipeline and the opportunities we see across our markets. With continued momentum in our core banking franchise, disciplined expense management and a strong balance sheet, we believe we are well positioned to continue improving profitability and creating long-term value for our shareholders,” said Mr. Wylie.

Net Interest Margin

Net interest margin for the third quarter of 2026 increased 5 basis points to 2.95% from 2.90% reported in the second quarter of 2026, primarily due to an increase in yield on average interest-earning assets, partially offset by an increase in cost of funds. The yield on interest-earning assets increased 7 basis points to 5.65% from 5.58% reported in the second quarter of 2026, while the cost of funds increased 2 basis points to 2.88% from 2.86% reported in the second quarter of 2026. The increase in cost of funds was primarily driven by higher cost of deposits as a result of higher rates on money market accounts.

Relative to the third quarter of 2025, net interest margin increased 41 basis points from 2.54% due to a 35 basis point decrease in cost of funds as a result of the lower interest rate environment and an increase in yield on average interest-earning assets.

The decrease in Salaries and employee benefits was primarily driven by reduced employer payroll taxes. The decrease in Technology and information systems was primarily attributable to a $0.4 million nonrecurring charge related to the write-off of certain previously capitalized technology assets recorded in the second quarter of 2026. FAQ

AI-generated questions and answers. How Rhea-AI works. Not financial advice.

What were First Western Financial’s Q3 2026 earnings?

First Western earned $6.0 million available to common shareholders, or $0.60 per diluted share, in Q3 2026. That compares with $5.7 million, or $0.57 per diluted share, in Q2 2026 and $3.2 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, in Q3 2025.

Why did First Western Financial’s tax expense decline in Q3 2026?

A $0.4 million benefit from a purchased clean-fuel tax credit primarily drove the sequential decline in tax expense. The credit was purchased during Q3 2026.

Why did First Western Financial’s non-interest income fall in Q3 2026?

Lower mortgage-loan gains and bank fees drove the sequential decline in non-interest income, partly offset by higher trust and investment management fees. Mortgage origination volume declined, while bank fees reflected lower prepayment-penalty and swap income.

What drove First Western Financial’s lower non-interest expenses in Q3 2026?

Lower salaries and employee benefits and technology expenses drove the sequential decline in non-interest expenses, partly offset by higher occupancy and equipment expenses. Employer payroll taxes declined, and Q2 had included a $0.4 million nonrecurring technology-asset write-off. Variable lease costs increased.
