Amy Johnston, Head of Global Institutional Client Group, Northern Trust Asset Management

Johnston will lead the strategic direction and commercial success of Northern Trust Asset Management’s institutional businesses globally, building on strong client engagement across public and private markets. With US$1.4 trillion of institutional and global family office assets under management as of June 30, 2026, the Global Institutional Client Group serves pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, nonprofits, global family offices, corporations, consultants and OCIOs.

In this role, Johnston will drive organic growth across institutional client businesses, partner with investment and product leaders to advance innovation, and lead the firm's global institutional distribution and sales enablement teams. She will also ensure strategic alignment across Northern Trust, delivering the whole firm to best support institutional clients for the long term. Based in Chicago, Johnston will report to Northern Trust Asset Management President Michael Hunstad, Ph.D.

Johnston has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with expertise in sales and distribution strategy across institutional and intermediary clients. Previously, she spent 14 years with State Street Investment Management in the United States and Australia, most recently as Managing Director and Head of Distribution Strategy for the Americas Institutional Client Group. She has also held distribution roles at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Perennial Investment Partners and Merrill Lynch. Johnston holds a graduate diploma of applied finance and investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a bachelor’s degree from Queensland University of Technology.
