Key Terms

rain rfid technical
RAIN RFID is a widely used form of radio-frequency identification that uses inexpensive, battery-free tags readable at a distance to identify and track items automatically. For investors, it matters because RAIN RFID can transform inventory control, loss prevention and supply-chain speed—imagine replacing manual barcode scans with automatic “eyes” that report what’s on shelves and in transit—so firms that deploy it often lower costs, improve margins and generate richer operational data.
internet of things technical
A network of everyday objects—like appliances, machines, vehicles, and sensors—connected to the internet so they can send and receive information and act automatically, like a thermostat that learns your schedule or a factory machine that reports wear. Investors care because these connected devices create new revenue streams, recurring service and data opportunities, and efficiency gains, while also concentrating risks such as security vulnerabilities and ongoing maintenance costs.
integrated circuits technical
Integrated circuits are tiny assemblies of electronic components—transistors, tiny switches, and electrical connections—built together on a small piece of semiconductor material to perform tasks like computing, storing data, or controlling signals; think of them as a miniature city where roads and buildings are laid out to do specific jobs. They matter to investors because they are the fundamental building blocks of almost all modern electronics, so shifts in demand, manufacturing capacity, technology or supply chains for integrated circuits can directly affect company costs, product availability and market value.
dual-frequency technical
Dual-frequency describes a device, sensor or signal that operates at two different radio or acoustic frequencies instead of just one. For investors, it signals broader compatibility and flexibility—like a bilingual person who can communicate in two languages—often meaning better performance, wider market reach or fewer regulatory hurdles, but potentially higher development or manufacturing costs that can affect margins.
