Insights

TEN's new eco-friendly tanker delivery strengthens its $3.7B revenue backlog and triples fleet capacity through aggressive renewal strategy.

TEN's delivery of the eco-friendly suezmax tanker Dr Irene Tsakos represents a significant milestone in the company's ambitious fleet renewal strategy. This vessel, along with its sister ship Silia T (scheduled for Q3 2025 delivery), has secured valuable long-term contracts with major energy companies—five years for Dr Irene Tsakos and three years (extendable to nine) for Silia T. These contracts contribute to TEN's impressive $3.7 billion secured revenue backlog, providing exceptional income visibility in the historically volatile tanker market.

The company's aggressive "Greenship" program, launched in January 2023, demonstrates remarkable execution efficiency. TEN has divested 14 older vessels (average age: 17.3 years) with 1.2 million dwt capacity and replaced them with 30 modern vessels (average age: 0.6 years) totaling 3.7 million dwt—effectively tripling carrying capacity while dramatically modernizing the fleet. This transformation goes beyond simple replacement to represent substantial operational expansion.

With 19 vessels currently under construction (including 11 shuttle tankers, specialized vessels that command premium charter rates), TEN is positioning itself strategically in high-value shipping segments. The company's proforma fleet of 82 vessels (63 currently operational) represents one of the largest diversified tanker fleets globally. The secured long-term charters with "leading European and US energy majors" reflect industry confidence in TEN's operational capabilities and provide critical insulation against market volatility—embodying their "industrial shipping model" that has weathered multiple market cycles over three decades.

TEN’s total future secured revenues are now in the region of $3.7 billion
