Key Terms

waveguides, augmented reality, wearable computing devices, head-mounted displays
4 terms
waveguides technical
"Vuzix Corporation (NASDAQ: VUZI), a leading supplier of smart glasses, waveguides"
Waveguides are physical pathways, often made of metal or glass, that direct and carry signals like light or radio waves from one point to another. They are important because they help ensure these signals travel efficiently without losing strength, which is crucial for things like internet connections, satellite communications, and radar systems.
augmented reality technical
"and augmented reality technologies"
Augmented reality is technology that layers computer-generated images, information or sounds onto your view of the real world through devices like phones, tablets or smart glasses — like seeing navigation arrows or product labels projected onto what you’re looking at. It matters to investors because it creates new ways to sell hardware, software, services and ads, can change customer engagement and recurring revenue models, and carries adoption and privacy risks that affect company value.
wearable computing devices technical
"head-mounted smart personal display and wearable computing devices"
Wearable computing devices are small electronic gadgets designed to be worn on the body—like watches, glasses, clothing or fitness bands—that collect data, run apps and connect to the internet or other devices. They matter to investors because they create new streams of user data, recurring hardware and software sales, and service ecosystems; think of them as personal computers you carry on your person that can change how people interact with technology and services.
head-mounted displays technical
"optics, head-mounted displays, and the augmented reality wearables field"
A head-mounted display is a wearable screen or pair of screens that a person puts on their head like glasses or a helmet to see digital images, videos or augmented information overlaid on the real world. Investors care because these devices create new markets for hardware, software and content—adoption rates, manufacturing costs, and how easily people use them drive revenue, recurring services, and partnerships much like how smartphones created app ecosystems.
