The concern is that Verizon may be using outdated mortality data from the 1980s, despite longer current life expectancies, resulting in potentially lower monthly payments than legally required under ERISA regulations.

The investigation specifically targets the actuarial equivalence of converted benefits, as required by federal law (ERISA). Both management and sales associates who started receiving survivor annuities in the past six years may be affected by these alleged miscalculations.

Verizon (VZ) has announced plans to redeem specific debt securities on April 23, 2025. The redemption price will be calculated based on the greater of two options: either 100% of the principal amount or the sum of the present values of remaining scheduled payments, discounted at the Treasury Rate plus 20 basis points. The final calculation will be made three business days before the redemption date.

The redemption price will include accrued and unpaid interest up to, but not including, the redemption date. U.S. Bank Trust Company will serve as the paying agent for this debt redemption process.

Verizon and Santander Bank (NYSE: SAN) have announced a multi-year partnership to launch Verizon + Openbank Savings, a high-yield savings account offering Verizon customers up to $180 annual bill savings and interest rates 10 times the national average.

The service, launching in April, will be available to Verizon mobile and 5G Home customers with a minimum average daily balance of $1,000. The digital banking platform, operated through Santander's Openbank division, features no fees, low minimum deposits, and 24/7 access to funds.

Openbank's U.S. platform, launched in late 2024, has already accumulated over $3 billion in deposits. The service will expand to include Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and Checking Accounts later in 2025.
