Company Description
Western Asset Investment Grade Opportunity Trust Inc. is a diversified closed-end management investment company whose common shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol IGI. The Fund seeks current income and capital appreciation through a portfolio focused primarily on investment-grade corporate fixed-income securities of varying maturities.
The Fund is managed by Franklin Templeton Fund Adviser, LLC and subadvised by Western Asset Management Company, LLC and certain foreign-based affiliates of Western Asset Management. Franklin Templeton Fund Adviser and Western Asset Management are indirect wholly owned subsidiaries of Franklin Resources, Inc., which operates as Franklin Templeton.
IGI operates as a closed-end fund rather than an open-end mutual fund. Its common shares trade on an exchange, while the Fund's portfolio is valued through net asset value calculations. The Fund's structure gives shareholders exposure to an actively managed investment-grade fixed-income portfolio through a listed common stock.
The Fund previously operated as Western Asset Investment Grade Defined Opportunity Trust Inc. Stockholders approved the elimination of the Fund's defined term and its fundamental policy to liquidate on or about its scheduled term date. After completion of the related issuer tender offer, the Fund implemented the conversion to a perpetual fund structure and continues to trade under the ticker IGI.
Recurring corporate matters for the Fund include shareholder meetings, director elections, independent registered public accountant ratification, adviser and subadviser relationships, tender offers, net asset value-based repurchases, and governance actions associated with its closed-end fund structure.
