Rhea-AI Filing Summary

AXT, Inc. reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $73.410 million, compared with $27.955 million a year earlier. CEO Morris Young called it a record and attributed the result to strong customer demand for indium phosphide material; he said revenue increased 54% from the prior quarter and 162% year over year. GAAP net income attributable to AXT was $25.723 million, versus a $1.906 million loss in the year-earlier quarter. Diluted GAAP earnings were $0.39 per share, compared with a $0.04 loss.

Non-GAAP net income was $26.792 million, or $0.41 per diluted share; AXT says these supplemental measures exclude stock-based compensation. Cash and cash equivalents were $485.472 million as of September 30, 2026, compared with $120.266 million as of December 31, 2025. The company identified export permits and U.S.-China geopolitical tensions among factors that could affect forward-looking results.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

indium phosphide technical
"strong customer demand for indium phosphide material"
Indium phosphide is a high-performance semiconductor material used to make chips, lasers and detectors that carry and process light and very fast electrical signals. Think of it as a specialized road surface designed for high-speed light traffic—better suited than ordinary silicon for fiber-optic communications, high-frequency electronics and some sensors. Investors care because demand and supply for this material affect companies in telecom, data centers, photonics and semiconductor supply chains, influencing costs, production capacity and technology competitiveness.
non-GAAP financial measures financial
"provides certain non-GAAP financial measures"
Non-GAAP financial measures are numbers companies use to show their financial performance that exclude certain expenses or income. They help investors see how the company might perform without one-time costs or other unusual items, giving a different perspective from official reports. However, since they can be adjusted, they don’t always tell the full story and should be looked at alongside standard financial figures.
redeemable noncontrolling interests financial
"Redeemable noncontrolling interests"
A redeemable noncontrolling interest is a minority ownership stake in a company that the holder can force the company to buy back at a set price or under certain conditions. For investors this matters because it creates a future cash obligation and can be treated more like a liability than permanent equity, affecting a company’s reported debt, net income and valuation — think of it as a part-owner who can cash out, forcing the business to pay them.
unconsolidated joint ventures financial
"Equity in income of unconsolidated joint ventures"
Unconsolidated joint ventures are business partnerships where a company shares ownership and control but keeps the venture’s full financials separate from its own books; the company typically reports only its share of profit or loss instead of combining all assets, liabilities and sales. This matters to investors because it can hide the venture’s full risks, debts and revenues from the parent’s financial statements, so understanding these arrangements helps assess true exposure and future cash flow potential — like seeing only your slice of a pie rather than the whole pie’s size.

AXT, Inc. Announces Third Quarter 2026 Financial Results

FREMONT, Calif., October 29, 2026 – AXT, Inc. (NasdaqGS: AXTI), a leading manufacturer of compound semiconductor wafer substrates, today reported financial results for the third quarter, ended September 30, 2026.

Management Qualitative Comments

“This is a pivotal and exciting period for AXT,” said Morris Young, chief executive officer. “Our revenue in Q3 reached a record $73.4 million, up 54 percent from the prior quarter and up 162 percent year over year, driven by exceptionally strong customer demand for our indium phosphide material. We entered 2026 with a commitment to double our indium phosphide capacity and I am pleased to report that not only have we surpassed that goal but we have more than quadrupled our 2026 indium phosphide revenue opportunity through additional productivity gains and the expansion of our capabilities for high-value, large diameter products. We remain laser-focused on execution and supporting our customers as they scale, and we believe we are well positioned for transformational growth as our market continues on an extraordinary trajectory.”

Note Regarding Use of Non-GAAP Financial Measures

As discussed above, the company provides certain non-GAAP financial measures that exclude stock-based compensation in addition to, and not as a substitute for, or because it believes that such information is superior to, financial measures calculated in accordance with GAAP. The company believes that non-GAAP financial measures, when taken collectively, may be helpful to investors because they provide consistency and comparability with past financial performance and provide better comparability with our peer companies, many of which also use similar non-GAAP financial measures. Further, the company believes that these non-GAAP financial measures offer an important analytical tool to help investors understand the company’s core operating results and trends. In addition, management uses non-GAAP financial measures to compare the company’s performance relative to forecasts and strategic plans and to benchmark its performance externally against peer companies. However, non-GAAP financial information is presented for supplemental informational purposes only, has limitations as an analytical tool and should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for financial information presented in accordance with GAAP. In addition, other companies may calculate similarly-titled non-GAAP financial measures differently or may use other measures to evaluate their performance, all of which could reduce the usefulness of the company’s non-GAAP financial measures as tools for comparison. The company encourages investors to carefully consider its results under GAAP, as well as its supplemental non‐GAAP information and the reconciliation between these presentations, to more fully understand its business. A reconciliation of our GAAP consolidated financial statements to our non-GAAP consolidated financial statements is provided below.
