The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is a U.S. federal agency that sets and enforces safety and health standards for mining operations, conducts inspections, investigates accidents, and issues citations or fines. Its actions matter to investors because safety rules, enforcement actions, or accident findings can increase operating costs, interrupt production, create legal and cleanup liabilities, and damage a miner’s reputation—similar to how building inspections or traffic enforcement affect a company’s ability to operate smoothly.

FAQ

What mine safety incident did CRH (CRH) disclose in this 8-K?

CRH disclosed that its subsidiary Arkhola Materials received an MSHA Section 107(a) imminent danger order at the Okay Quarry after an employee stood on a handrail about 20 feet high without fall protection. Immediate corrective action was taken and no injuries occurred in the incident.

Why did MSHA issue a Section 107(a) imminent danger order to CRH’s subsidiary?

MSHA issued the Section 107(a) imminent danger order because an employee climbed onto and stood on a handrail approximately 20 feet off the ground without wearing fall protection. This behavior was deemed an imminent danger under federal mine safety rules, triggering the enforcement action.

Were there any injuries in the CRH (CRH) Okay Quarry safety incident?

No injuries occurred in the Okay Quarry incident disclosed by CRH. The company reports that immediate corrective action was taken after MSHA observed the unsafe behavior. MSHA confirmed safety equipment, including fall protection gear and a manlift, was available at the site during the event.

Did the employee involved in CRH’s mine incident have fall protection training?

Yes. MSHA confirmed that the employee involved in the unsafe act at CRH’s Okay Quarry had received fall protection training on March 6, 2026. Despite this prior training, the employee stood on a handrail without protection, which led to issuance of the imminent danger order.

What was the outcome of the MSHA order reported by CRH (CRH)?

After CRH’s subsidiary took immediate corrective action, MSHA terminated the Section 107(a) imminent danger order. Regulators also confirmed that appropriate fall protection equipment and a manlift were readily available on site, indicating the issue related to employee behavior rather than equipment absence.

Which CRH subsidiary and location were involved in the MSHA safety action?

The incident involved Arkhola Materials, a subsidiary of CRH plc, at its Okay Quarry located in Okay, Oklahoma. MSHA’s Section 107(a) imminent danger order addressed a specific unsafe act by one employee, rather than broad conditions across all of CRH’s mining operations.
