Rhea-AI Filing Summary

NovaBridge Biosciences (NBP) reported that its majority-owned ophthalmology subsidiary, Visara, entered an exclusive license agreement with Wuhan Hiteck Biological Pharma Co., Ltd. for worldwide development and commercialization of investigational VIS-102, excluding Greater China. Visara will pay Hiteck $7.0 million as an upfront and near-term milestone payment, plus additional payments of up to $104.0 million based on clinical development and commercialization milestones and tiered royalties at a single digit percentage of annual net sales.

In a Phase 1b study in Chinese subjects with severe neurotrophic keratitis, the highest-dose cohort had 50% complete corneal healing after an 8-week VIS-102 course; the vehicle control group had 14% complete healing at Week 4. After crossing over to VIS-102, participants from the vehicle group had 43% complete healing following a 4-week course. The study’s expansion phase will evaluate the highest dose at six times daily and three times daily in 8-week regimens.

Filing Explained

Visara says it plans to develop VIS-102 as its second clinical-stage program, extending its portfolio beyond retinal vascular disease into neurotrophic keratitis, a disease that impairs corneal healing.

Upfront and near-term milestone payment $7.0 million Payment Visara will make to Hiteck under the license agreement
Additional milestone payments Up to $104.0 million Based on clinical development and commercialization milestones
Complete corneal healing 50% Highest-dose VIS-102 cohort after a single 8-week course in the Phase 1b study
Complete corneal healing 14% Vehicle control group at Week 4 in the Phase 1b study
Complete corneal healing 43% Vehicle group after crossover and a 4-week VIS-102 course
neurotrophic keratitis medical
"patients with neurotrophic keratitis"
A degenerative eye disease in which damage to the nerves that supply the cornea prevents normal healing, causing persistent surface breakdown, ulcers, scarring and potential vision loss. Think of it like a cut on the skin that you cannot feel and that doesn’t close because the repair signals are missing. It matters to investors because it defines patient populations, clinical trial endpoints, regulatory pathways and market need for therapies that restore corneal sensation or promote healing.
modified recombinant human nerve growth factor medical
"modified recombinant human nerve growth factor therapy"
tiered royalties financial
"tiered royalties on net sales"
Tiered royalties are a payment structure where the percentage of earnings paid as royalties changes based on different levels of sales or production. For example, a company might pay a smaller percentage on initial sales and a higher percentage as sales increase beyond certain points. This system encourages higher sales by adjusting payments, making it important for investors to understand how revenue sharing may vary as a product or project grows.
regulatory exclusivity regulatory
"expiration of applicable regulatory exclusivity"
A period during which regulators prevent competitors from relying on a drug or device maker’s safety and effectiveness data to win approval for their own rival product, creating a temporary market shield beyond or instead of a patent. For investors, this delay in direct competition can extend a product’s revenue runway and improve predictable cash flow, like giving a seller exclusive access to a popular storefront for a set time before others can move in.
single-dose units technical
"supplied in ready-to-use, single-dose units"

Visara Expands Ophthalmology Pipeline with Exclusive License for Investigational Nerve Growth Factor Therapy for Neurotrophic Keratitis

Visara secures exclusive worldwide rights, excluding Greater China, from Wuhan Hiteck Biological Pharma to develop and commercialize HT006.2.2

Visara plans to develop HT006.2.2 as VIS-102, its second clinical-stage program, expanding the Company's ophthalmology portfolio beyond retinal vascular disease into ocular surface disease

HT006.2.2 is designed to offer a more convenient treatment option for patients with neurotrophic keratitis

ROCKVILLE, Md., October 13, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Visara, Inc. (“Visara” or the “Company”), a majority-owned ophthalmology subsidiary of NovaBridge Biosciences (“NovaBridge”) (NASDAQ: NBP), today announced that it has entered into an exclusive license agreement (the “License Agreement”) with Wuhan Hiteck Biological Pharma Co., Ltd. (“Hiteck”) for the development and commercialization of VIS-102 (HT006.2.2), an investigational next-generation modified recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) therapy designed to restore corneal health in patients with neurotrophic keratitis (NK).

In NK, damage to the corneal nerves impairs the eye's ability to heal. This can lead to persistent epithelial defects, corneal ulceration and permanent vision loss. VIS-102 is designed to restore corneal health with a more convenient treatment option for patients. In addition to formulation optimization, it incorporates targeted modifications to the NGF amino acid sequence intended to improve resistance to enzymatic degradation and maintain stability under refrigeration. These changes allow VIS-102 to potentially be supplied in ready-to-use, single-dose units. This design may reduce the storage, shipping, handling and administration burden associated with current treatments for NK.

“Patients with neurotrophic keratitis face a serious, sight-threatening disease, and the practical demands of treatment can place a significant burden on patients and their caregivers,” said Jeffrey Nau, Ph.D., M.M.S., President and Chief Executive Officer of Visara. “VIS-102 was designed to address that directly. We believe its molecular architecture and refrigerated, ready-to-use format could simplify care for patients and providers. VIS-102 is a compelling addition to our pipeline as we build a company addressing unmet needs across the front and back of the eye.”

“The expansion of Visara’s pipeline illustrates how we are applying the NovaBridge model to build focused franchises around differentiated innovation,” said Srishti Gupta, M.D., M.P.P., Chief Executive Officer of NovaBridge. “With VIS-102, Visara expands beyond retinal disease into a second area of significant unmet need. We believe this is an important step in building Visara into a broader ophthalmology company and demonstrates the repeatability of the NovaBridge approach to creating long-term value.”

The program has demonstrated encouraging early clinical activity to date, further supporting Visara's decision to expand into NK through the in-licensing of VIS-102. Phase 1b data in a population of Chinese subjects with severe NK showed that in the highest dose cohort of VIS-102, after a single 8-week course, subjects achieved 50% complete corneal healing, whereas 14% of those in the vehicle control group had complete corneal healing at Week 4. In the study, those on vehicle then crossed over to active treatment from Week 5 to Week 8 and achieved 43% complete corneal healing after a 4-week course of VIS-102. Treatment related ocular adverse events were all mild and consistent with trials of rhNGF. No subjects withdrew or discontinued the study due to a related adverse event. The study will continue an expansion phase to evaluate the highest dose at both 6 times daily and 3 times daily 8-week regimens in Chinese patients with NK.

The License Agreement expands Visara’s pipeline beyond its tetravalent VEGF-A × ANG-2 peptibody (VIS-101) being developed for neovascular retinal diseases and represents an important step in its evolution into a diversified ophthalmology company. VIS-102 complements Visara’s existing focus on retinal vascular diseases by extending its portfolio into neuroprotection and the treatment of rare ocular surface disease.

Under the terms of the License Agreement, Visara will receive exclusive rights to develop and commercialize VIS-102 worldwide excluding Greater China. Hiteck will receive an up-front payment as well as potential development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments and tiered royalties on net sales.

About VIS-102
