How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

combined ratio financial
"Combined ratio"
The combined ratio is a way insurance companies measure how well they are doing by adding up all their costs and claims and comparing them to the money they earn from premiums. If the ratio is below 100%, it means the company is making a profit; if it's above 100%, they are losing money. It helps see if an insurance company is financially healthy or not.
loss and loss adjustment expense ratio financial
"Loss and loss adjustment expense ratio"
The loss and loss adjustment expense (LAE) ratio measures how much of an insurer’s premium income is used to pay claims and the costs of handling those claims, expressed as a percentage of premiums earned. It tells investors how efficiently an insurer pays and manages claims — like seeing what share of a store’s sales is eaten by returns and the cost to process them — and helps assess underwriting profitability and risk before investment income is considered.
net premiums earned financial
"Net premiums earned"
The portion of insurance premiums that a company recognizes as revenue for a specific accounting period after subtracting any amounts paid to other insurers for reinsurance; it represents the cost of insurance coverage actually provided during that time. Think of a year‑long subscription where only the months used are counted as income. Investors watch net premiums earned to gauge an insurer’s revenue growth and underwriting performance, separate from one‑time sales or changes in policy counts.
return on average equity financial
"Return on average equity"
Return on average equity (ROAE) measures how much profit a company generates for its shareholders’ invested capital over a period, calculated by dividing net profit by the average shareholder equity during that period. It matters to investors because it shows how efficiently management turns owners’ money into earnings—like how much bread a baker bakes from the same oven space—helping compare profitability across companies and track performance over time.
runoff financial
"continued progress in the runoff of Non-Standard Auto"
Net premiums earned $65.756 million Down 8.6% from $71.905 million
Gross premiums written $54.346 million Down 7.2% from $58.586 million
Net income (loss) $5.528 million Compared with a $1.666 million loss
Combined ratio 93.6% 15.5 percentage points lower than 109.1%

NI Holdings, Inc. Reports Results for Third Quarter Ended September 30, 2026

FARGO, North Dakota, November 6, 2026 – NI Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: NODK) announced today results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.

Summary of Third Quarter 2026 Results

(All comparisons vs. the third quarter of 2025, unless noted otherwise)

·Gross premiums written of $54,346 compared to $58,586 in the prior year quarter. This decrease was driven by Non-Standard Auto (-100.2%) due to the continued impact of the Company’s strategic decision to exit the segment. Also impacting the decrease was a decline in Private Passenger Auto (-8.4%) due to lower new business and renewal premiums in South Dakota and Nebraska and the impact of rate decreases in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. These declines were partially offset by All Other (+50.6%) due to continued increased assumed premiums from participation on catastrophe reinsurance programs of certain farm bureau insurance companies and Home and Farm (+1.9%) due to strong renewal premiums, rate increases and increased new business in North Dakota.
·Combined ratio of 93.6% versus 109.1% in the prior year quarter. The improvement was primarily driven by favorable prior year development on loss reserves in Non-Standard Auto during the current year quarter compared to unfavorable prior year development in the prior year quarter as well as favorable development on loss reserves for current year storms and lower weather-related losses within the Home and Farm segment. These improvements were slightly offset by higher losses in Crop due to drought conditions in North Dakota as well as increased large loss activity and adverse prior year development on loss reserves in Private Passenger Auto.
·Net investment income of $2.7 million, down 10.7% from the prior year quarter, primarily due to a lower average fixed income portfolio balance as proceeds from maturities and sales were used to fund operating cash needs in the Non-Standard Auto segment.
·Basic earnings per share of $0.27, compared to basic loss per share of $(0.08) in the prior year quarter, reflecting improved profitability for the quarter.
