Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Rhea-AI Filing Summary

Strattec Security Corporation (STRT) reported fiscal 2027 first-quarter results for the quarter ended September 27, 2026. Net sales were $147.2 million, down 3% from $152.4 million, and net income attributable to Strattec was $4.8 million, or $1.19 per diluted share, compared with $8.5 million, or $2.07. Adjusted diluted EPS was $1.85 versus $2.22; adjusted EBITDA was $13.5 million, or 9.2% of net sales, versus $15.6 million, or 10.2%.

Cash provided by operating activities was $10.8 million, compared with $11.3 million a year earlier. At September 27, 2026, cash and cash equivalents were $111.8 million and the company had no debt. Strattec repurchased 67,904 shares for $5.0 million, leaving $35.0 million available under its share repurchase authorization.

Lower customer production volumes reduced sales by $6.2 million, partly offset by $1.0 million in pricing. Gross margin was 16.5%, compared with 17.3%; the company cited lower volume, premium freight, annual labor cost increases and a 90-basis-point negative impact from $1.4 million in unfavorable foreign currency exchange.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Adjusted EBITDA financial
"Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter was $13.5 million"
Adjusted EBITDA is a way companies measure how much money they make from their core operations, like running a business, by removing certain costs or income that aren’t part of regular business activities. It helps investors see how well a company is doing without distractions from unusual expenses or gains, making it easier to compare companies or track performance over time.
adjusted diluted EPS financial
"adjusted diluted EPS was $1.85"
Adjusted diluted EPS is a company’s profit per share after adding back or removing one-time items (like restructuring costs or gains) and dividing by the number of shares including potential shares from options and convertible securities. Investors use it as a cleaner view of ongoing earnings—like looking at a car’s regular fuel efficiency rather than a trip boosted by downhill coasting—to judge underlying performance and compare companies without temporary distortions.
gross margin financial
"gross margin contracted 80 basis points to 16.5%"
Gross margin is the difference between how much money a company makes from selling its products and how much it costs to produce them, expressed as a percentage of sales. It shows how efficiently a company is turning sales into profit before other expenses like marketing or salaries. Higher gross margin means the company keeps more money from each sale, which is a good sign of financial health.
share repurchase authorization financial
"remaining available under the Company’s share repurchase authorization"
A share repurchase authorization is a company's official approval to buy back its own shares from the market. This signals that the company believes its stock is a good investment and can help increase the value of remaining shares by reducing how many are available. For investors, it often suggests confidence from the company and can influence the stock’s price.

MILWAUKEE, WI, October 29, 2026 — Strattec (Nasdaq: STRT), a global provider of highly engineered access solutions for the automotive and mobility industries, today reported financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended September 27, 2026.

Jennifer Slater, President and CEO of Strattec, said, “Our first quarter financial results demonstrate the impact of our transformation efforts, which enabled us to achieve a 9.2% adjusted EBITDA margin on $147.2 million in net sales. We continue to improve our cost structure through targeted operational initiatives. During the quarter, we took actions in our Mexico operations that are expected to generate $1.3 million in annualized savings. We believe there remain meaningful opportunities to reduce costs through supply chain improvements and automation which we expect to support margin improvement and strengthen our competitive position.”

She added, “Importantly, the strength of our balance sheet provides us the flexibility to invest in our business while also returning capital to shareholders and pursuing strategic growth opportunities. We have an active acquisition funnel that we believe could advance our long-term strategy. Concurrently, we have remained focused on improving the performance of our operations and driving transformational change.”

FY 2027 First Quarter Financial Summary
(compared with prior-year period, except where otherwise noted)

Net sales were $147.2 million, a decrease of $5.2 million, or 3%. Pricing of $1.0 million somewhat offset the $6.2 million impact of lower customer production volumes.

Gross profit was $24.3 million, compared with $26.3 million in the prior-year period, and gross margin contracted 80 basis points to 16.5%. Pricing, $0.9 million in restructuring savings, lower overhead costs and better mix were more than offset by the impact of lower volume, elevated premium freight and annual labor cost increases. Unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates of $1.4 million had a 90 basis point negative impact to gross margin. Sequentially, gross margin improved from 15.6% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 to 16.5% in the first quarter, on lower sales demonstrating continued progress with the transformation.

Selling, administrative and engineering (“SAE”) expenses were $17.9 million, or 12.2% of sales, compared with $15.9 million, or 10.4% of sales, in the prior-year period. The increase was due to
$2.4 million in business development expenses. Excluding business development, business transformation and
