AbbVie Earnings: Sales Rise 10.3% as Skyrizi and Rinvoq More Than Replace Humira
Skyrizi and Rinvoq, AbbVie's two newer immune drugs, added $18.2 billion of yearly sales from 2022 to 2025, more than the $16.7 billion Humira lost. Skyrizi alone now brings in a third of AbbVie's sales, not far below Humira's share before copies arrived, as third quarter 2026 sales rose 10.3% to $17.4 billion.
The short answer. Skyrizi and Rinvoq have more than made up for the yearly sales AbbVie lost when cheaper copies of Humira, once more than a third of its sales, arrived in 2023. It shows a drugmaker surviving the loss of its biggest product, though in our reading AbbVie now depends heavily on one medicine again. AbbVie's own reports since 2022 show that handover quarter by quarter, alongside its growing brain and nerve drugs and its slipping beauty business.

AbbVie earnings: Skyrizi and Rinvoq have more than replaced Humira
By 2025 the two newer immune drugs had added more yearly sales than Humira lost. This quarter they brought in 48.7% of AbbVie's sales, against 3.9% for Humira.
In the third quarter, Skyrizi sales grew 22.7% and Rinvoq sales grew 23.9%, while Humira fell 31.2%. The figures come from AbbVie's third quarter 2026 results release.
All three are immune drugs, medicines that calm an immune system that attacks the body's own skin, joints or gut, used for illnesses such as Crohn's disease. AbbVie's immune drug group as a whole grew 16.3%.

Humira's slide began in 2023, when cheaper copies reached the US, a change AbbVie's full year 2025 release calls the "U.S. Humira loss of exclusivity". These copies, called biosimilars, are near copies of a drug made from living cells, sold once its patent protection ends. In the last three months of 2022, Humira sold $5.579 billion, according to AbbVie's fourth quarter 2022 release.
Humira's US sales have collapsed. They were 92.5% lower in the third quarter of 2026 than in the same quarter of 2022, at $372 million against $4.956 billion, as AbbVie's third quarter 2022 release shows.
The handover came in two steps. Skyrizi and Rinvoq together first outsold Humira in the fourth quarter of 2023, as AbbVie's fourth quarter 2023 release shows. Their extra sales did not yet make up for what Humira had lost.
That came in 2025. From 2022 to 2025 the pair's yearly sales rose $18.2 billion, more than the $16.7 billion Humira lost. Both changes come from the yearly figures in AbbVie's full year releases for 2022 and 2025. Chief executive Robert A. Michael called 2025's sales a record.
The company paid for the handover first. AbbVie's total yearly sales fell from $58.1 billion in 2022 to $54.3 billion in 2023, before climbing to $61.2 billion in 2025.

Skyrizi alone is close to Humira's old size. Over the last four quarters it sold $20.770 billion, 97.8% of Humira's sales in 2022.
In our reading, the success brings back a familiar risk. AbbVie again leans heavily on its top immune drugs. Skyrizi alone made up 33.2% of sales this quarter, not far below Humira's 37.5% share in the same quarter of 2022.
Both drugs grew at about the same pace inside and outside the US, though the US still supplied 81.9% of their combined sales this quarter.

AbbVie's next drugs: the Apogee deal, Juvmo and a weight loss shot
AbbVie finished buying Apogee Therapeutics, adding drugs for eczema and asthma to its immune medicines, though the release gives no price. The FDA also approved Juvmo, a new AbbVie pill for Parkinson's disease.
The Apogee deal brings zumilokibart, an antibody (a lab-made immune protein) for atopic dermatitis, the common form of eczema. It is in late stage testing, the final round of trials before a company seeks approval. In an earlier, smaller trial, all three dose plans met their main goal against a placebo, a dummy treatment. In our reading, the deal points AbbVie's next growth at the same immune diseases where Skyrizi and Rinvoq now lead.
Juvmo, approved by the FDA, the US drug regulator, is a once a day pill for Parkinson's disease. It joins AbbVie's brain and nerve drugs, the group covered in the next section.
Lutikizumab met its main goal in a late stage trial in hidradenitis suppurativa, a painful skin disease, and AbbVie plans to seek approval in the second half of 2027. In cancer, AbbVie asked the FDA to approve etentamig for multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, that came back after earlier treatment. In its late stage trial, 74% of patients responded, according to the results release.
AbbVie also says early results support moving ABBV-295, an experimental weight loss shot, into a mid stage trial. The company is testing whether it can be given every other week or once a month.
AbbVie's brain drugs grew fast while beauty and cancer sales stalled
AbbVie's brain and nerve medicines grew 19.4% in the quarter and have more than doubled since 2022. Beauty treatments shrank a little, and cancer drugs were flat.
AbbVie's neuroscience group, its drugs for the brain and nervous system, brought in $3.389 billion. Its two biggest sellers are Vraylar, a medicine used in depression and bipolar disorder, and Botox used as a medical treatment, which AbbVie counts apart from the beauty version.
Vyalev, a newer drug in the group, more than doubled its sales, and Juvmo, the newly approved Parkinson's pill, joins the group. The two migraine medicines grew strongly too, with Qulipta up 38.2% and Ubrelvy up 26.9%.
The beauty business, which AbbVie calls aesthetics, fell 1.4%, yet Botox Cosmetic actually grew. The drag came from Juvederm, the face filler line, which lost 11.9% of its sales, and from the smaller beauty products grouped as other aesthetics.
Cancer drugs were flat, up 0.8%. Imbruvica, an older cancer drug, fell 26.1%, while Venclexta and Elahere grew.

Over four years the brain and nerve group has become a second engine. Its third quarter sales more than doubled from $1.672 billion in 2022, as AbbVie's third quarter 2022 release shows, while beauty treatments fell 9.6%.
The brain group carries the growth outside the immune drugs. Everything else AbbVie sells, outside those two groups, was 11.6% smaller in the third quarter of 2026 than in the same quarter of 2022.

AbbVie's profit per share jumped from $0.10 to $2.37
Profit per share under standard accounting rose from $0.10 to $2.37. In our reading, a far smaller charge for drugs bought while still in testing explains much of the jump.
Under standard accounting rules, AbbVie earned $2.37 a share in the quarter, against $0.10 a year earlier.
Its adjusted profit per share, a version that leaves out some acquisition costs, more than doubled to $3.82, from $1.86. That version still counts the cost of drugs bought while in testing.
AbbVie booked $216 million of costs for drugs it bought or licensed while still in testing, against $2.680 billion a year earlier.
In our reading, that smaller charge explains much of the jump, and sales growth of 10.3% is the steadier guide to how the business did.

Source: AbbVie third quarter 2026 results release, consolidated statements of earnings. The release says the cost of drugs bought while in testing took $0.11 off profit per share this quarter, against $1.50 in the third quarter of 2025. GAAP gross margin, the share of sales left after the cost of making its products, 75.4%.
AbbVie raised its 2026 profit forecast again
AbbVie now expects a little more profit per share in 2026 than in its earlier forecast. The results release also says the quarterly dividend, the cash paid to shareholders, will rise from February 2027.
The results release gives the forecast for adjusted profit per share, the version that leaves out some acquisition costs. The new range is $13.95 to $13.99, higher and much narrower than the earlier $13.76 to $13.96.
The midpoint of the range rose about 0.8%. Chief executive Robert A. Michael said AbbVie was "once again increasing" its full year forecast.
The range already counts $0.69 a share of costs for drugs bought while still in testing during the first nine months. It leaves out any such costs after the third quarter, because AbbVie says it cannot predict them. A new deal before the year ends could therefore lower the figure the company finally reports.
The current quarterly dividend is $1.73 a share, payable on November 16, 2026, according to AbbVie's September 10 dividend declaration.
The results release, also filed with US regulators, says the board approved a rise to $1.82 a share. It starts with the payment due on February 16, 2027, which goes to people who own shares on January 15, 2027, the record date.
The average share count, including shares that stock awards could create, was 1,772 million, the same as a year earlier. The release gives no buyback figure and no debt balance. It reports net interest expense of $700 million in the quarter, which is the cost of its borrowing after interest earned.
What to watch
- Debt, buybacks and the Apogee price: the release gives none of them. AbbVie's Form 10-Q, the full quarterly report it files with US regulators, covers debt, buybacks and acquisitions.
- Etentamig: AbbVie has asked the FDA to approve it for multiple myeloma that came back after earlier treatment, and the decision will come in an FDA or AbbVie announcement.
- Whether the handover keeps going: AbbVie's fourth quarter release will show whether Skyrizi and Rinvoq again added more in 2026 than Humira lost. That release came between January 31 and February 9 in each of the last four years.
Our numbers
These figures are our calculations from the sources linked in this article.
- $18.2 billion and $16.7 billion: the change in yearly sales from 2022 to 2025 for Skyrizi and Rinvoq added together, and for Humira.
- Shares of sales (48.7%, 33.2%, 3.9%, 37.5% and the yearly Humira shares): each drug's sales divided by AbbVie's total sales for the same period.
- Fourth quarter of 2023: the first quarter in AbbVie's releases in which Skyrizi and Rinvoq together sold more than Humira.
- 92.5%: the fall in Humira's US sales from the third quarter of 2022 to the third quarter of 2026.
- 81.9%: the US part of Skyrizi and Rinvoq sales this quarter.
- $20.770 billion and 97.8%: Skyrizi's sales over the four quarters to September 2026, then divided by Humira's 2022 sales.
- More than doubled and 9.6%: third quarter sales in 2026 against 2022 for brain and nerve drugs and for beauty treatments.
- 11.6%: the same comparison for sales excluding Humira, Skyrizi, Rinvoq and brain and nerve drugs.
- Chart figures and the 0.8% forecast rise: the two drugs' sales added, total sales minus Humira, Skyrizi and Rinvoq, and the forecast midpoint of $13.97 against $13.86.
