Key Terms

generative ai technical
Generative AI is a type of computer technology that can create new content, like text, images, or music, on its own. It’s important because it can produce realistic and useful material quickly, which could change how we create art, write stories, or even develop new products. Think of it as a smart robot that can invent and produce things almost like a human.
headless ai systems technical
Headless AI systems are software backends that run artificial intelligence models and serve outputs without a built-in user interface, like a kitchen that prepares meals but leaves plating and serving to different restaurants. For investors, they matter because they let businesses integrate advanced AI into many products or services more quickly and cheaply, enabling scalable features, lower development costs, and potential new revenue streams across multiple customer touchpoints.
governed data technical
Governed data is information a company has organized, labeled and controlled so it stays accurate, traceable and accessible only to authorized users. For investors it matters because well-managed data lowers the chance of regulatory fines, privacy breaches or bad decisions caused by errors—think of it as a company’s recipe book kept orderly so chefs follow the right steps and auditors can verify ingredients and provenance.
ai-powered applications technical
Software programs that use artificial intelligence techniques—like learning from data, spotting patterns, or making predictions—to perform tasks that previously needed human judgment, such as analyzing documents, recommending actions, or automating decisions. For investors, these applications matter because they can boost a company's revenue, cut costs or speed processes much like adding a highly efficient assistant or autopilot, but they also introduce new execution, accuracy and regulatory risks that can affect profitability and valuation.

From Pilot to Production: Domo is Also Expanding Its Team Of Forward Deployed Engineers To Deliver Headless AI Systems in the Real World

SILICON SLOPES, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Domo (NASDAQ: DOMO) today announced the appointment of Ben Schein as Chief AI and Analytics Officer, as the company expands its focus on helping customers deploy AI-powered applications and agents and continues its own transformation using AI and analytics.

As organizations invest heavily in generative AI, many are still stuck in pilots that never make it into production. What’s holding most organizations back is connecting models to the right data and putting them to work inside everyday business processes. Domo helps customers build and deploy AI-powered apps and agents on top of governed data so that teams across the business can automate processes, augment decisions, and act in real time.

“Most companies have an execution problem more than an AI problem,” said Josh James, founder and CEO of Domo. “They’ve invested in models, but those models aren’t connected to the business. We’re focused on helping customers deploy AI in ways that actually run parts of their operations. Ben has spent his career doing exactly that.”

Leading AI Transformation Inside and Outside the Business

In his new role, Schein will lead Domo’s internal AI and analytics transformation and contribute to the company’s broader efforts to deliver AI-powered solutions to customers. This includes embedding AI into core business processes across sales, marketing, finance, and product development, and using Domo’s AI-powered applications and agents to automate workflows and improve execution.

Schein joined Domo in 2018 and has held senior leadership roles across product and analytics. Prior to Domo, he spent nearly a decade at Target, where he became Senior Director of Enterprise Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence. He led large-scale analytics initiatives across merchandising and digital operations, helping drive adoption from a few thousand users to enterprise-wide deployment. His work focused on getting timely, granular data into the hands of business teams and embedding analytics into day-to-day decision-making.

“Most companies are still designing software for humans to navigate,” said Schein. “But AI doesn’t need dashboards. It needs access to governed data and the ability to act within real workflows. That’s the shift we’re driving at Domo, both for our customers and within our own business.”

Forward Deployed Engineers Turn AI Into Working Systems

Domo is also expanding its team of forward deployed engineers (FDEs) who work directly with customers to design, build, and deploy AI-powered applications and agents tailored to specific business challenges.

These teams work directly with customers to build and deploy AI-powered applications and agents for specific business problems. They help connect models to governed data and get solutions running inside day-to-day operations, so teams can move from concept to working systems without long delays.

This model reflects Domo’s broader focus on execution, ensuring that AI initiatives move beyond experimentation and deliver measurable business value.

Headless Software That AI Can Operate

At Domopalooza 2026, Domo introduced new capabilities including its Domo Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server and AI agent framework, which connect external AI models to trusted, business-ready data and enable them to take action across business workflows. This architecture reflects a more headless approach to software, where AI agents interact with systems programmatically rather than through traditional user interfaces.

In this model, AI can operate directly on data and systems through governed connections and defined context. This reflects a more headless approach to software, where the interface is no longer the primary way systems are used.

Domo’s AI and Data Products Platform is built on a governed data foundation and helps organizations move beyond dashboards and into systems that can execute by enabling AI to connect directly to data and operate within business workflows.
