The net loss of $9.0 million represents a substantial improvement from $16.4 million in Q1 2024. This positive trajectory came despite a 13% decline in Honey Birdette revenue to $16.3 million, which was strategic rather than problematic—the company reduced promotional days to prioritize brand health, resulting in full-price sales increasing 8% YoY and now representing 80% of Honey Birdette's total sales (up from 65%). This shift improved Honey Birdette's gross margin to 58% from 52%.
The Byborg licensing deal appears transformative, guaranteeing at least $20 million annually for 15 years. While the company incurred $3.8 million in transition expenses, these are nonrecurring. Management expects an additional $20 million in payments from Byborg by July, including minimum guarantees for Q3/Q4 2025.
The balance sheet shows $23.7 million in cash against $155.1 million in long-term debt—a concerning ratio that bears watching. Operating expenses decreased 6% YoY to $35.1 million, though they still exceed revenues. Management noted eliminating approximately $1 million in costs after Q1, which would have boosted adjusted EBITDA to $3.4 million on a proforma basis.
The successful relaunch of Playboy magazine opens additional revenue streams including paid voting, events, and special editions, while the company pursues new licensing opportunities in land-based entertainment and gaming. If PLBY can continue reducing corporate expenses while growing high-margin licensing revenue, the asset-light model could deliver sustainable profitability.

EBITDA Reconciliation
This release presents the financial measure earnings (net income or loss) before interest, income tax expense or benefit, and depreciation and amortization (“EBITDA”) . “Adjusted EBITDA” is defined as EBITDA adjusted for stock-based compensation and other special items determined by management. Adjusted EBITDA is intended as a supplemental measure of our performance that is neither required by, nor presented in accordance with, GAAP. We believe that the use of EBITDA and Adjusted EBITDA provides an additional tool for investors to use in evaluating ongoing operating results and trends and in comparing our financial measures with those of comparable companies, which may present similar non-GAAP financial measures to investors.
