Recognized for technology innovation, reputation, impact, and R&D investment

BELMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- RingCentral, Inc. (NYSE: RNG), a global leader in AI-powered customer engagement, today announced it has been named to Business Insider America's Most Innovative Businesses 2027 list, produced in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group. The list recognizes publicly traded U.S. companies that distinguish themselves through strong innovation performance, combining industry reputation, technological impact, and investment in research and development.

This marks the first year Business Insider and Plant-A Insights Group have partnered to produce the ranking. The study reviewed more than 4,000 publicly traded U.S. companies using patent data and financial metrics, 1,600 of which advanced to further evaluation. The 500 highest scoring companies were recognized to the list.

“This recognition reflects the work our teams put into reimagining how businesses communicate and engage their customers with AI at the core,” said Kira Makagon, President & COO, RingCentral. “We’re at an incredibly exciting inflection point as Agentic Voice AI transforms what’s possible in customer engagement — moving beyond automation to create more intelligent, personalized and impactful experiences. We’re honored to be included and energized by what it represents. We will continue to push boundaries, drive innovation, and deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers.”

The evaluation by Business Insider measured the following:

  • Reputation — peer-to-peer industry ratings gathered through a nationwide survey of more than 67,000 U.S. working professionals, who rated companies in their own industry on an 11-point innovation scale.
  • Impact — analysis of patent data, including forward citations, non-patent citations, industry reach, absolute patent volume, and patent intensity growth.
  • Investment — R&D investment, R&D intensity growth, and deviation from industry-median R&D spending.

As businesses increasingly turn to AI to improve customer experiences and empower employees, RingCentral is seeing strong momentum across its Agentic Voice AI portfolio. The Company’s continued recognition by leading industry and business organizations, including Business Insider, TIME, and Gartner, reinforces RingCentral’s leadership in AI innovation and the opportunity ahead.

Key Terms

r&d investment financial
Spending by a company on research and development (R&D) covers costs for discovering, designing, testing, and improving products, services, or processes. Investors watch R&D investment because it trades off current profits for potential future growth and competitive advantage—like planting seeds that may yield new revenue later—so it affects a company’s future cash flow prospects, valuation, and risk profile.
forward citations technical
The number of later documents—most often subsequent patents, academic papers, or legal decisions—that reference a given earlier document. It measures how often others build on or rely on that original work, like counting how many people cite a book as a source. For investors, higher forward citations can signal that an asset, technology, or legal precedent is influential and may carry greater competitive or commercial value.
r&d intensity growth financial
R&D intensity growth measures how a company’s research-and-development spending as a share of its sales is changing over time — essentially the increase or decrease in R&D-to-revenue ratio from one period to the next. It signals whether a business is allocating a growing or shrinking slice of its sales to innovation; investors use it like a thermometer for commitment to developing new products or technologies, similar to watching how much of a household budget grows for home improvements.
