Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Key Terms

net asset value, non-accrual status, first-lien loans, atm offering, +1 more
5 terms
net asset value financial
"Net Asset Value ("NAV") of $1.33 billion"
Net asset value is the total value of an investment fund's assets minus any liabilities, divided by the number of shares or units outstanding. It represents the per-share worth of the fund, similar to how the value of a house is determined by its total worth after debts are subtracted. Investors use it to gauge the true value of their holdings and to compare different investment options.
View in glossary
non-accrual status financial
"loans to three portfolio companies were on non-accrual status"
A loan or credit account is placed in non-accrual status when the lender stops recording expected interest income because the borrower is not making scheduled payments or repayment is doubtful. Think of it like a landlord who stops counting unpaid rent as future income once a tenant stops paying; it signals rising credit problems and potential losses. For investors, non-accrual levels indicate loan quality and can foreshadow write-downs, lower earnings, and increased risk to a lender’s balance sheet.
first-lien loans financial
"89.2% first-lien loans and 10.8% second-lien loans"
A first-lien loan is a debt that gives the lender the first legal claim on a borrower’s specified assets if the borrower can’t pay, like having the first ticket in line to a repossessed car. That priority makes these loans relatively safer than unsecured or lower-priority debt, so investors view them as a more conservative way to earn interest while improving the odds of recovering principal in a default.
atm offering financial
"utilized its equity ATM offering program to sell"
An at-the-market offering is a way for a company to sell new shares of its stock directly into the stock market over time, usually through a designated sales program. This approach allows the company to raise funds gradually as needed, similar to adding small amounts of fuel to a car rather than filling the tank all at once. For investors, it can influence the company's stock price and provide insights into its financing plans.
weighted average shares outstanding financial
"based on 95.1 million basic weighted average shares outstanding"
The weighted average shares outstanding is the average number of a company’s common shares that were available during a reporting period, adjusted so each change (like new shares issued or shares bought back) counts only for the portion of the period it was in effect. Investors use it to calculate per-share measures such as earnings per share, so it shows how ownership dilution or buybacks affect what each share is entitled to—like averaging how many people were at a potluck over time to determine each person’s share of the food.

Third Quarter 2026 Operating Results

For the three months ended September 30, 2026, total investment income was $98.4 million, compared to $75.6 million for the three months ended September 30, 2025. The effective yield on the average debt investments at cost was 15.2% for the third quarter of 2026, compared to 15.0% for the third quarter of 2025. Effective yields generally include the effects of fees and income accelerations attributed to early loan repayments and other one-time events, and may also fluctuate quarter-to-quarter depending on the amount of prepayment activity.

Total operating expenses and excise taxes, excluding interest expense, for the third quarter of 2026 were $20.2 million, compared to $17.6 million during the third quarter of 2025. The increase was primarily attributable to higher compensation costs partially offset by higher allocated expenses to the Company's registered investment adviser subsidiary.

Interest expense for the third quarter of 2026 was $28.3 million, compared to $21.0 million during the third quarter of 2025. The increase was primarily attributable to the increase in weighted average debt outstanding.

Net investment income was approximately $49.9 million, or $0.52 per share based on 95.1 million basic weighted average shares outstanding for the third quarter of 2026, compared to $37.0 million or $0.52 per share for the third quarter of 2025 based on 71.5 million basic weighted average shares outstanding.

During the three months ended September 30, 2026, the Company's net unrealized appreciation totaled approximately $4.5 million, which included net unrealized appreciation of $4.8 million from its equity investments, net unrealized appreciation of $0.3 million from its debt investments, partially offset by net unrealized depreciation of $0.7 million from its warrant investments. Additionally, there was $0.1 million net unrealized appreciation attributable to foreign currency forward contracts.

Net realized loss on investments was approximately $7.5 million, primarily due to the realized losses of two loan positions and one equipment financing position, partially offset by the realized gain of one warrant position.

Net increase in net assets resulting from operations was $46.9 million, or $0.49 per share, based on 95.1 million basic weighted average shares outstanding. This compares to a net increase in net assets resulting from operations of $27.6 million, or $0.39 per share, based on 71.5 million basic weighted average shares outstanding for the third quarter of 2025.

Net Asset Value

Total net assets at the end of the third quarter of 2026 increased by 4.6% to $1.33 billion, compared to $1.27 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2026. The increase in total net assets was primarily due to accretive ATM issuances, partially offset by net portfolio performance. NAV per share increased to $13.61 per share in the third quarter from $13.47 per share as of June 30, 2026.

Portfolio and Investment Activity

As of September 30, 2026, the Company's investment portfolio had an aggregate fair value of approximately $2.9 billion and was comprised of approximately $2.0 billion in secured loans, $470.7 million in equipment financings, and $369.5 million in equity and warrants, across 198 portfolio companies. The Company's debt portfolio is comprised of 89.2% first-lien loans and 10.8% second-lien loans, with 78.4% of the debt portfolio at floating rates based on principal outstanding.

During the third quarter, the Company originated approximately $880.5 million of total new commitments. Third quarter gross investments funded totaled approximately $614.1 million, which was comprised of $431.9 million of investments in 15 new portfolio companies, $117.7 million of investments in 24 existing portfolio companies and $64.5 million to multi-sector holdings. Gross investment fundings during the quarter for secured loans totaled $377.9 million, equipment financings totaled $159.1 million and warrant and equity investments totaled $77.1 million.

Gross proceeds received from exits and repayments of the Company's investments during the third quarter totaled approximately $494.8 million, which included $237.2 million from investments sold, $194.3 million from early debt repayments and refinancings, $57.3 million from scheduled/amortizing debt payments and $6.0 million from warrant and equity sales. The investment portfolio increased by $121.1 million on a cost basis, an increase of 4.5%, and $125.4 million on a fair value basis, an increase of 4.6%, each as compared to June 30, 2026.

As of the end of the third quarter, loans to three portfolio companies were on non-accrual status with a total fair value of approximately $17.2 million, or 0.7% of the Company's debt investment portfolio at fair value.
