Vishay Intertechnology (VSH) introduced the D2TO35S, an automotive-grade power resistor designed for top-side cooling in a compact TO-263 package.

The surface-mount device delivers 35 W of power dissipation at 25 °C. It transfers heat to a heatsink instead of relying on circuit-board cooling. Vishay says it can deliver up to nine times the power dissipation of standard board-mounted devices when paired with an appropriate heatsink. Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of fourteen weeks.

Key Terms

5 terms
thick film technical
"Automotive Grade top-side cooling mount thick film power resistor"
Thick film is a manufacturing process that prints layers of conductive, resistive or insulating paste onto a solid surface (usually ceramic or glass) and then fires them to form electrical circuits or components. Think of it like screen-printing metal and ceramic inks onto a board and baking them so they become permanent traces; investors care because it affects product performance, production cost, and reliability for electronic components and sensors.
TO-263 technical
"surface-mount TO-263 (D²PAK) package"
TO-263 is a standardized metal-and-plastic package type used to mount power semiconductor chips (like transistors, MOSFETs and regulators) directly onto circuit boards. Its large flat body and metal tab help dissipate heat and allow automated assembly, so mentioning TO-263 in a product description signals something about the component’s power-handling, thermal performance, manufacturability and cost — like the chassis and cooling system for a small engine.
non-inductive technical
"Offering a non-inductive design for improved signal integrity"
Non-inductive describes a drug or compound that does not cause induction — a sustained increase — in a biological process, most commonly the activity or amount of drug‑metabolizing enzymes (for example, liver cytochrome P450 enzymes). It matters to investors because a non-inductive profile lowers the risk the drug will alter the levels or effects of other medicines, which can simplify regulatory review, safety labeling, and commercial use; think of it like a new appliance that works without changing how other appliances in the house run.
tcr technical
"TCR down to ± 150 ppm/°C"
TCR stands for T‑cell receptor, a protein on the surface of certain immune cells that recognizes pieces of disease or abnormal cells like a lock recognizing a specific key. Investors see it as a target for therapies that reprogram a patient’s immune cells to hunt cancer or infected cells, so advances or setbacks in TCR-based treatments can strongly affect clinical prospects, regulatory risk and company valuation.
rohs-compliant regulatory
"The RoHS-compliant device is solder reflow secure"
RoHS-compliant means a product meets rules that limit or ban certain hazardous chemicals in electrical and electronic equipment, ensuring the item does not contain those restricted substances above set limits. For investors this matters because compliance affects a company's ability to sell in regulated markets, avoid fines and recalls, and manage production costs and supply-chain risks—similar to a food product following a recipe that omits banned ingredients to stay sellable and safe.

Automotive Grade Device Delivers 35 W Power Dissipation While Enhancing Thermal Performance and Saving Space

MALVERN, Pa., Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new Automotive Grade top-side cooling mount thick film power resistor. Designed for automotive applications, the Vishay Sfernice D2TO35S improves thermal performance and reduces board space requirements, while delivering high power dissipation of 35 W at 25 °C in the surface-mount TO-263 (D²PAK) package.

As thermal constraints increasingly become the primary system design limitation, many power components are transitioning from PCB-based cooling to top-side cooled architectures. By transferring heat directly to a heatsink, the D2TO35S released today enables up to nine times greater power dissipation than standard PCB-mounted devices when paired with an appropriate heatsink. Its compact, surface-mount design allows designers to increase power dissipation within the same footprint or provide the same functionality in a smaller footprint, while lowering PCB temperatures, reducing thermal stress on neighboring components, and improving overall system reliability.

Offering a non-inductive design for improved signal integrity and power handling in fast transient conditions, the D2TO35S features a resistance range from 4.7 Ω to 550 kΩ — with tolerances down to ± 1 % — thermal resistance of 4.28 °C/W, TCR down to ± 150 ppm/°C, and a wide operating temperature range from -55 °C to +175 °C. The RoHS-compliant device is solder reflow secure at 270 °C/10 s.

Samples and production quantities of the D2TO35S are available now with lead times of fourteen weeks.
