Wolfspeed Powers the Future of EVs with Multiyear Silicon Carbide Device Agreement

The agreement extends an existing customer relationship through a multiyear commitment to supply silicon carbide devices.

Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Long-term supply agreement supports BorgWarner’s next-generation 800V silicon carbide inverter platform with Wolfspeed’s industry-leading silicon carbide technology

DURHAM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Wolfspeed, Inc. (NYSE: WOLF), a global leader in silicon carbide technology, today announced a multiyear supply agreement for Wolfspeed silicon carbide devices to support BorgWarner’s next-generation 800V silicon carbide-based inverter platform as strategic partner. The agreement strengthens the companies’ longstanding collaboration while providing BorgWarner with a reliable, long-term supply of high-performance silicon carbide technology for next-generation electric vehicle (EV) and power conversion applications.

The agreement comes as global EV adoption continues to expand. Electric vehicles accounted for 25% of new cars sold globally in 2025, and the International Energy Agency projects EVs could represent approximately half of global car sales by 2035. As automakers scale next-generation EV platforms, silicon carbide is increasingly critical to delivering the efficiency, power density and performance required by advanced vehicle architectures.

“Our strategy is to combine our technology leadership with deep, long-term customer partnerships,” said Matthias Buchner, SVP, Global Sales & Chief Marketing Officer at Wolfspeed. “Our supply agreement with BorgWarner demonstrates that strategy, bringing together advanced silicon carbide technology, proven quality and reliability, and scaled 200 mm manufacturing capabilities to deliver the performance and supply confidence BorgWarner needs for their next-generation EV platform.”

Wolfspeed’s Gen 5 silicon carbide technology is designed to support the efficiency, performance and reliability requirements of next-generation automotive power electronics. BorgWarner is leveraging Wolfspeed’s 1200V silicon carbide technology for its 800V silicon carbide-based inverter platform.

The agreement is designed to provide BorgWarner with consistent, uninterrupted access to Wolfspeed silicon carbide devices and reinforces Wolfspeed’s role as a stable, long-term supply partner. It also aligns with Wolfspeed’s scaled U.S. manufacturing capabilities, which have fully transitioned to 200 mm wafers.

Wolfspeed shares a commitment to automotive-grade quality, with Wolfspeed’s silicon carbide solutions engineered to perform in demanding, high-heat and high-voltage environments. That combination of performance, reliability and long-term supply supports automakers as they bring increasingly sophisticated EV platforms to market.

Key Terms

silicon carbide technical
Silicon carbide is a hard, durable material made from silicon and carbon, often used in industrial applications like cutting tools and electronics. Its ability to withstand high temperatures and conduct electricity efficiently makes it valuable in manufacturing advanced electronic devices. For investors, companies working with silicon carbide are seen as key players in the growing market for high-performance electronics and energy-efficient technologies.
power density technical
Power density measures how much energy a device or system can produce or transfer in a given amount of space or volume, often expressed as power per unit area or volume. It helps investors understand how efficiently a technology can deliver energy or performance relative to its size, which can influence decisions about its practicality and potential for scaling up. High power density typically indicates a compact, powerful solution, while lower values suggest larger, less intense options.
