How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

operating ratio financial
"Our operating ratio improved by 280 basis points"
A company's operating ratio is a simple percentage that shows how much of its revenue is eaten up by the costs of running the business — calculated by dividing operating expenses by operating revenue. For investors it signals efficiency and profit potential: a lower operating ratio means the company keeps more of each dollar it earns (like a household with lower bills keeping more of its paycheck), while a higher ratio suggests tighter margins and less room to absorb shocks.
yield management financial
"our disciplined approach to yield management"
Yield management is a pricing and inventory strategy companies use to maximize revenue from a fixed-capacity product or service by adjusting prices and availability based on demand patterns, booking timing and customer willingness to pay. For investors it matters because effective yield management increases average revenue per sale, smooths cash flow and improves profit margins—similar to how an airline fills seats at varying fares to get the most income from each flight.
claims ratio technical
"a claims ratio of 0.1%"
The claims ratio measures how much an insurance company pays out in claims compared with the premiums it collects, usually shown as a percentage. Investors watch it like a health check — a low ratio suggests the insurer keeps more of the premium income, while a high ratio means more of the collected money is going out to cover claims, which can squeeze profits and signal underwriting or pricing problems.

Marty Freeman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Old Dominion, commented, “Old Dominion produced strong financial results in the third quarter that included a 13.1% increase in revenue and a 28.9% increase in our earnings per diluted share. These results were made possible by the hard work and dedication of our OD Family of employees who continued to diligently execute on the core aspects of our long-term strategic plan. The cornerstone of our strategic plan remains our commitment to providing our customers with superior service at a fair price, and we were pleased that our service metrics were once again best-in-class in the third quarter with 99% on-time service and a claims ratio of 0.1%.

“Our 13.1% increase in revenue was primarily due to a 13.3% increase in our LTL revenue per hundredweight that was partially offset by a 0.1% decrease in our LTL tons per day. The decrease in our LTL tons per day reflects the net impact of a 2.0% decrease in our LTL shipments per day and a 1.9% increase in our LTL weight per shipment. Demand for our service improved during the quarter and our LTL tons per day increased on a year-over-year basis in September. LTL revenue per hundredweight, excluding fuel surcharges, increased 5.1% compared to the third quarter of 2025 as we continued to maintain our disciplined approach to yield management.

“Our operating ratio improved by 280 basis points to 71.5% for the third quarter of 2026. Within our direct operating costs, improvement in our salaries, wages and benefits as a percentage of revenue more than offset an increase in our

operating supplies and expenses. Our overhead costs improved by 170 basis points compared to the third quarter of 2025 due primarily to the leverage gained from the increase in our revenue as well as our continued efforts to control our discretionary spending. The combination of revenue growth and operating ratio improvement resulted in a 28.9% increase in our earnings per diluted share to $1.65 for the third quarter.”

Cash Flow and Use of Capital

Old Dominion’s net cash provided by operating activities was $469.5 million for the third quarter of 2026 and $1.1 billion for the first nine months of this year. The Company had $466.2 million in cash and cash equivalents at September 30, 2026.

Capital expenditures were $67.1 million for the third quarter of 2026 and $206.7 million for the first nine months of this year. The Company expects its aggregate capital expenditures for 2026 to total approximately $380 million, including planned expenditures of $180 million for real estate and service center expansion projects; $155 million for tractors and trailers; and $45 million for information technology and other assets.

Old Dominion continued to return capital to shareholders during the third quarter of 2026 through its share repurchase and dividend programs. For the first nine months of this year, the Company utilized $400.6 million of cash for its share repurchase program and paid $180.7 million in cash dividends.

Summary

Mr. Freeman concluded, “Old Dominion produced another quarter of strong, profitable revenue growth. Our unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the highest standard of service has created an unmatched value proposition in our industry and supports our ongoing focus on revenue quality. As this quarter demonstrates, our consistent investments in our network, our people and our technology provide us with the flexibility to respond quickly to changes in the demand environment. This flexibility allows us to support our customers with the capacity that they require while continuing to operate efficiently. As a result, we remain confident in our ability to win profitable market share and increase shareholder value over the long term.”
