How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

net interest margin financial
"the net interest margin from 3.44% to 3.66%"
Net interest margin measures how much a bank earns from lending and investing compared with what it pays for funding, expressed as a percentage of its interest-earning assets. Think of it like a grocery store’s markup: it shows the gap between buying cost and selling price per dollar of goods — here, the cost is interest paid and the sale is interest received. Investors watch it because a higher margin usually means a bank is more profitable and better at managing interest rate and credit conditions.
provision for credit losses financial
"The provision for credit losses for the nine months ended September 30, 2026"
Provision for credit losses is an amount set aside by a financial institution to cover potential future losses from borrowers who may not repay their loans. It acts like a safety net, helping the institution manage risks and stay financially healthy. For investors, it signals how cautious a lender is about potential loan defaults and can impact the company's profitability and financial stability.
non-accrual status financial
"being placed on non-accrual status during the first nine months of 2026"
A loan or credit account is placed in non-accrual status when the lender stops recording expected interest income because the borrower is not making scheduled payments or repayment is doubtful. Think of it like a landlord who stops counting unpaid rent as future income once a tenant stops paying; it signals rising credit problems and potential losses. For investors, non-accrual levels indicate loan quality and can foreshadow write-downs, lower earnings, and increased risk to a lender’s balance sheet.
bank owned life insurance financial
"earnings on bank owned life insurance (BOLI)"
Bank owned life insurance is a type of life insurance a bank buys on the lives of its employees so the bank, rather than the employee’s family, receives the payout when a covered person dies. It acts like a long-term asset that pays income and can help cover costs such as employee benefits or unexpected losses; investors watch it because the holding affects a bank’s reported earnings, cash flow stability, and capital position much like a conservative investment portfolio would.
accumulated other comprehensive loss financial
"Accumulated other comprehensive loss"
Accumulated other comprehensive loss is the running negative total of certain gains and losses that companies record outside their regular profit-and-loss statement, such as changes in the value of some investments, pension adjustments, or currency translation effects. It matters to investors because it reduces shareholders’ equity and reveals economic swings that haven’t affected reported net income yet — like a side ledger showing pending ups and downs that could influence future cash flow or balance-sheet strength.
Nine-month net income $32.484 million $6.395 million, or 24.5%, higher than the first nine months of 2025
Third-quarter net income $11.921 million $1.916 million, or 19.2%, higher than the comparable 2025 period
Nine-month net interest income before provision for credit losses $79.064 million $7.274 million, or 10.1%, higher than the same period in 2025

Citizens Financial Services, Inc. Reports Unaudited Third Quarter 2026 Financial Results

MANSFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA— October 30, 2026 – Citizens Financial Services, Inc (Nasdaq: CZFS), parent company of First Citizens Community Bank (the “Bank”), released today its unaudited consolidated financial results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2026.

Highlights

● Net income for the first nine months of 2026 was $32.5 million, which was $6.4 million, or 24.5% more than 2025’s net income through September 30, 2025 due to the increase in net interest income after the provision for credit losses of $8.1 million. The effective tax rate for the first nine months of 2026 was 17.9% compared to 19.2% in the comparable period in 2025.

● Net income was $11.9 million for the three months ended September 30, 2026, which was $1.9 million more than the net income for 2025’s comparable period due to an increase in net interest income after the provision for credit losses of $2.6 million. The effective tax rate for the three months ended September 30, 2026 was 18.0% compared to 19.4% in the comparable period in 2025.

● Net interest income before the provision for credit losses was $79.1 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, an increase of $7.3 million, or 10.1%, over the same period a year ago and was primarily due to an increase in loan and investment interest income due to organic growth.

● Net interest income before the provision for credit losses increased $2.1 million, or 8.4% to $27.3 million for the three months ended September 30, 2026 due to an increase in loan and investment interest income due to organic growth.

● The provision for credit losses for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 was $1,000,000. There was no provision for credit losses recorded for the three months ended September 30, 2026. This compares to a provision for credit losses of $500,000 and $1,875,000 for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2025, respectively. The provision for 2026 was driven by the updated loss driver analysis for 2026 offset by the economic impact of the Iran conflict and the increase in non-accrual commercial real estate loans.

● Return on average equity for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2026 was 13.39% and 12.36% compared to 12.52% and 11.15% for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2025.

● Return on average tangible equity for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2026 was 17.77% and 16.50% compared to 17.29% and 15.56% for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2025 (non-GAAP). (1)

● Return on average assets for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2026 was 1.45% and 1.37% compared to 1.33% and 1.16% for the three and nine months (annualized) ended September 30, 2025.

● Loans grew $152.8 million, or 6.8% since September 30, 2025. Loan growth since December 31, 2025 was $116.4 million, or 6.8% on an annualized basis.

● Non-performing assets increased $22,355,000 since December 31, 2025 and totaled $51,544,000 as of September 30, 2026, which is $28,550,000 higher than the balance as of September 30, 2025. The increase from December 31, 2025 is primarily due to ten commercial real estate loan relationships and one construction real estate loan relationship, totaling approximately $21.4 million, being placed on non-accrual status during the first nine months of 2026 as a result of becoming more than 90 days past due. The Bank’s continued strategy for certain acquired loans is to either improve the credit metrics of the non-performing loans or sell the underlying collateral or have the customers refinance the loans with another institution. As a percent of loans, non-performing assets totaled 2.16%, 1.29% and 1.03% as of September 30, 2026, December 31, 2025 and September 30, 2025, respectively. ● Borrowed funds totaled $512.5 million as of September 30, 2026, a $203.0 million increase from December 31, 2025 to fund student loans held for sale and investment growth since year-end.

● Stockholders’ equity totaled $351.3 million at September 30, 2026, compared to $338.1 million at December 31, 2025, an increase of $13.2 million. Excluding accumulated other comprehensive loss (AOCL), stockholders’ equity increased $25.4 million and totaled $375.8 million at September 30, 2026 (non-GAAP). The increase in stockholders’ equity was attributable to net income for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 totaling $32.5 million, offset by cash dividends for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 totaling $7.3 million. As a result of decreases in market interest rates impacting the fair value of investment securities and swaps, AOCL increased $12.1 million from December 31, 2025.
