Omdia: Global PC market grew 7% in Q3 2025 as Windows 10 end-of-service deadline nears

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The latest research from Omdia reveals that total shipments of desktops, notebooks and workstations grew 6.8% to 72 million units in Q3 2025. Notebook (including mobile workstation) shipments rose 4% to 57.2 million units, while desktop (including desktop workstation) shipments grew 17% to 15.2 million units. With the Windows 10 end-of-support deadline less than a week away, refresh demand across all end-user segments continues to be the dominant factor driving shipment and activation growth.

Omdia Research Director Ishan Dutt noted, “Business and consumer demand for PC upgrades continues to be healthy as the industry rapidly approaches the October 14 deadline to transition away from Windows 10. While Microsoft and its partners have greatly stepped up efforts to drive awareness, particularly amongst SMBs and consumers, a significant portion of the global Windows installed base remains either on Windows 10 or on a PC that is five or more years old.”

Recent polls of PC channel partners show that there is still much work to do in transitioning B2B customers onto Windows 11. Only 39% of 453 respondents in a September 2025 poll indicated that almost all of their customers’ PCs have been refreshed or upgraded. Another sizable 18% stated that their customers intend to continue using Windows 10 after the end-of-support deadline, with many likely to exercise Microsoft’s option of Extended Security Updates. For Microsoft and its OEM and channel partners, this represents a significant pool of users that will require ongoing targeting for awareness building and transition support.

“With upgrade demand spilling into Q4 and beyond, key industry players have outlined updated roadmaps for new products aimed at enticing PC purchases,” said Dutt. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X2 Elite, a refresh of its premium positioned PC chipset, while Intel has announced its next-generation Core Ultra processors in the Panther Lake series. “CES 2026 is set to be a showcase for new and compelling PC products as OEMs reveal updated portfolios that incorporate the latest chipsets, with on-device AI likely to be a rekindled theme following a relatively muted 2025,” Dutt added.

Lenovo enjoyed a strong quarter to extend its lead in the global PC market in Q3 2025, posting 17% growth and shipments totaling 19.4 million units. HP ranked second, shipping 15.0 million units, marking an 11% year-on-year increase while Dell secured third place with 3% annual growth, supported by ongoing refresh momentum. Fourth-placed Apple posted mid-single-digit growth, surpassing the 6-million unit shipment mark for the fifth consecutive quarter. Asus rounded out the top five vendor rankings with 5.8 million units shipped, a 7% increase from a year ago.
