Top Communication Services Stocks by Gross Margin

What Gross Margin Means for Communication Services Companies
Gross margin inside communication services spans two very different business models housed in the same sector. Internet platforms, ad networks, and digital media firms carry software-like cost structures, so their gross margins run at the rich end of the corporate universe. Legacy telecom carriers and cable operators, by contrast, are asset-heavy and pay steady network operating, content-licensing, and interconnection costs, which produces a materially lower gross margin profile.
Why It Matters in Communication Services
For platforms, a durable gross margin is a direct read on content or infrastructure leverage: user-generated content and targeted ads cost little to deliver once the platform is built. For telcos, gross margin movement is largely about traffic mix, content amortization, and network utilization. It is worth noting that content-heavy streaming businesses book licensing and production amortization in very different places across firms, which makes cross-company gross margin comparisons in that subsector unusually noisy.
What to Read Alongside
Pair gross margin with Revenue to frame subscriber or ad scale, Operating Margin which captures content and marketing spend beneath the gross line, and Net Margin for the bottom line.

How this ranking is built
Companies are ranked by gross margin as reported in their most recent annual filing with the SEC. Figures shown are in US dollars (or percent, as noted), rounded to two decimals.
- Source: annual 10-K / 20-F filings from companies trading on US exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq, AMEX).
- Fiscal year: whichever annual period the company has most recently filed. Fiscal years don't always align with the calendar year, so the "as of FY" stamp above reflects the most common year across the table.
- Filtered out: warrants, preferred shares, and duplicate listings that share a parent company's financials.
- Update cadence: refreshed as companies file new annual reports (typically within 60–90 days of fiscal year end).
