What EBITDA Means for Technology Companies
EBITDA captures earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, giving a view of operating profit before financing and accounting choices. In technology, software-heavy firms typically show EBITDA that tracks closely with operating cash flow because capital expenditures and tangible asset depreciation tend to be modest. Hardware makers and data-center operators sit at the other end, where substantial D&A pulls reported operating income well below EBITDA.
Why It Matters in Technology
Technology buyers often anchor on EBITDA because platform models carry high operating leverage: each marginal customer costs little to serve once the product exists. That same dynamic makes EBITDA flattering when stock-based compensation is large, since the figure ignores that real dilution cost. EBITDA is also less useful for hardware-intensive tech, where capex recurs and depreciation reflects genuine replacement needs rather than a bookkeeping artifact.

- Fiscal year: whichever annual period the company has most recently filed. Fiscal years don't always align with the calendar year, so the "as of FY" stamp above reflects the most common year across the table.
- Filtered out: warrants, preferred shares, and duplicate listings that share a parent company's financials.
