Top Energy Stocks by Net Income
Top energy companies ranked by net income, latest annual filings.
What Net Income Means for Energy Companies
Net income in energy lives and dies by the commodity cycle. Producers booking profit during a price upswing can swing to losses when the same barrels realize meaningfully lower prices, and reported earnings often carry large impairments when reserves are rewritten at lower price decks. Because of this, any single year's profit figure tells you more about the cycle than about the quality of the underlying operation.
Why It Matters Less in Energy
Firms that preserve low breakeven economics and disciplined capital allocation generate profit across a wider range of price environments, which is the real durability signal in the sector. Still, reserve writedowns, hedge gains and losses, and asset sales can swing reported earnings violently without changing operating reality. Multi-year averages across at least one commodity cycle give a far more honest read than any single annual figure.
What to Read Alongside
Read net income alongside [Free Cash Flow](/financials/top-free-cash-flow-stocks/energy/) to see the cash remaining after drilling and development, [Capital Expenditures](/financials/biggest-capex-stocks/energy/) for the reserve replacement spending that shapes future production, and [Return on Equity](/financials/top-roe-stocks/energy/) for through-cycle capital efficiency.

How this ranking is built
Companies are ranked by net income as reported in their most recent annual filing with the SEC. Figures shown are in US dollars (or percent, as noted), rounded to two decimals.
- Source: annual 10-K / 20-F filings from companies trading on US exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq, AMEX).
- Fiscal year: whichever annual period the company has most recently filed. Fiscal years don't always align with the calendar year, so the "as of FY" stamp above reflects the most common year across the table.
- Filtered out: warrants, preferred shares, and duplicate listings that share a parent company's financials.
- Update cadence: refreshed as companies file new annual reports (typically within 60–90 days of fiscal year end).
