Top Basic Materials Stocks by Dividends Paid
Top basic materials companies ranked by dividends paid, latest annual filings.
What Dividends Paid Means for Basic Materials Companies
Dividends paid is the cash returned to shareholders across the latest fiscal year, reported in the financing section of the cash flow statement. Miners and chemical producers in basic materials earn on the commodity cycle, and several tie distributions to a formula, a fixed share of earnings or of free cash flow, which passes operating gains on price straight through to shareholders in the year they occur.
Why It Matters Less in Basic Materials
A formula payout means the ranking measures where prices sat during one fiscal year rather than what the business returns across a full cycle. Peak-cycle totals overstate what a normal year sends out, and trough years drop the same companies out of view entirely. Mine lives, permitting timelines, and a low cost position say more about a basic materials payer's durability than the size of one year's payment.
What to Read Alongside
Read it next to Net Income for the earnings a formula payout is tied to, Free Cash Flow for the cash behind it, and Share Buybacks for the other cyclical channel.

This list ranks the total dollars paid out over the latest fiscal year, so the largest companies lead it; a big payout says nothing about the yield a share buys today. A company whose balance sheet runs above 150 times its market cap is left out, because at that gap the accounts are not in US dollars.
How this ranking is built
Companies are ranked by dividends paid as reported in their most recent annual filing with the SEC. Figures shown are in US dollars (or percent, as noted), rounded to two decimals.
- Source: annual 10-K / 20-F filings from companies trading on US exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq, AMEX).
- Fiscal year: whichever annual period the company has most recently filed. Fiscal years don't always align with the calendar year, so the "as of FY" stamp above reflects the most common year across the table.
- Filtered out: warrants, preferred shares, and duplicate listings that share a parent company's financials.
- Size floor: A company qualifies at $500 million in market cap or above. Below that, one mis-stated figure outranks the companies the list is about.
- Currency check: A company whose annual revenue runs above 15 times its market cap is left out, because at that gap the two figures are not in the same currency.
- Currency check: A company whose balance sheet runs above 150 times its market cap is left out for the same reason.
- Update cadence: refreshed as companies file new annual reports (typically within 60–90 days of fiscal year end).
